What does everyone think of Nikki Carpenter? I liked her, I can't see why everyone hated her.

As much as people didn't like Nikki Carpenter if her character last a bit longer it would have been a matter of time before her and MacGyver would have made it to MacGyver's bed. There was that sexual tension there between Mac and Nikki, even Pete picked up on this when he mention something to MacGyver about the way they acted towards each other but what they felt was different and said they should just sit down and try talking to each other. MacGyver admited that he cared about her a lot and so did Nikki as we saw in the episode The Widowmaker. There was also a little bit of jealousy on Mac's side when she was dating Matt Webber. Plus the old man in GX - 1 told MacGyver he will come to love her.

Comittment was something Mac and Nikki feared so maybe it would have been something like a long hot romance.

What I don't understand is why people didn't like her. What I liked about Nikki character was she had been through a lot with the death of her husband and her brother, same as Mac with his parents. Mac grew up as a only child and was rasied by his mother after his father died. Nikki was raised as a only child by her father. I guess they were both at the same point in their lives they didn't know what they wanted.

MacGyver: “Ah Nikki, nothing personal, but I’m going to the mountain, I’m going alone and Pete you should have consulted me”
Pete: “Listen I tried to call you, more than once”
MacGyver: “Oh yeah.... well I’ve been out of touch”
Nikki: “Slaving away as I see”
MacGyver: “Look I said nothing personal, but those mountains are rugged”
Nikki: “And you don’t want to be stuck dragging a women around”
MacGyver: “Well I wouldn’t have put it quite like that”
Nikki: “But that’s exactly what you meant!”
Pete: “Nikki”
Nikki: “Your a closet sexist!”
MacGyver: “What!”
Pete: “MacGyver!”
MacGyver: “Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Why don’t we just admit that you and I do things a little differently”
Pete: “Look hold it will yea”
Nikki: “Look MacGyver as so as I’m finish crossing that boarder baby-sitting you”
Pete: “I should have known this wasn’t going to work”
MacGyver : “Baby-sitting, baby-sitting, did you hear what she said? I don’t not need to be baby-sat”
Pete: “Hold it”
MacGyver and Nikki keep on fighting
Pete: “Will You Hold It A Minute! Let me get a word in edge wise here. Now you are going to go across that East Germany boarder together as a married couple, that’s how I think you will get across undetected. Now once you are across and at the resort you can separate, you can each go your own way ....... O.K! Everybody happy now?”
MacGyver and Nikki look at each other
Pete: “Good! O.K. lets go back to the hotel there’s a lot of prep work to do”
MacGyver: “Fine. I’ll met you there" MacGyver looks at Nikki "As soon as I give Heidi a ride home"
Nikki: “Heidi, it would be”
Pete grabs Nikki
Pete: “Oh stop it”
Nikki laughs back at MacGyver as he watches her leave with Pete

people didnt like her because people wanted mac single.. so did richard dean anderson they wanted her out and i dont blame them.. i want mac single.. i wouldnt want them sleeping together yuck

About couple of years back I was going through my mother's old magazines, most of them dated back to the 80s. I remember coming across an piece with Richard Dean Anderson I think the year was 1988. It said that said Richard Dean Anderson said he didn't hate Nikki Carpenter's character he just didn't want Nikki and Mac getting together, he thought it wouldn't be good for the show. He said he liked Elyssa Davalos's female touch to the show and they got on really well and had fun. There was also a lot of hate mail from his female fans too. That's all was mention about Nikki Carpenter from what I can remember. I'm kind of kicking myself for not saving any of those magazines

I think she could have had a re-ocurring role in the show like the others and just kept the sexaul tension there between the two. I agree with Richard Dean Anderson, Nikki and Mac should never got together it would just have killed the show.

But think what an episode of Nikki and Jack would have been like. Now that would have been funny

Nikki was absolutely awesome! I have also wondered that why on Earth people don't like her. Are they jealous? Do they just hate her because she is not a damsel in distress like other women in the series? I've never figured it out.
I think Mac and Nikki would be great together. They should have even tried that. Now we can only guess would it have worked or not.
Thank God there's a couple of nice FanFics of them but still want to see them together in television. Elyssa Davalos acted Lisa Kohler in Lost Love Part 1 and Part 2, right? Well, Lisa Kohler was another typical woman in the series but I still kind of liked her. It must be because of Elyssa Davalos.
Luckily Lost Loves and those Nikki Episodes are in the same season. No need to buy other seasons.

Well, as a longtime MacGyver fan (it's still my all-time favorite TV series!)- I definitely recommend getting all the seasons of the show on DVD, along with the TV-movies. They're all good! And I liked Nikki Carpenter just fine. I thought she was a great foil for MacGyver and it was something different to see someone challenging him at times and to see them learn to work together. (And to watch Pete having to deal with both of them at the Phoenix Foundation.) She was a great character and nice addition to the cast for the time she was there. And Elyssa Davalos was a great choice to play the role.
