Default Danny Thomas's Brother

Did anybody know about this 1955 tragedy with Danny Thomas's brother, Paul Jacobs, who was a producer on the show?

Interesting. I did not know about this. I wonder if he is buried in Toledo? I should do some research and see and maybe visit the grave next time I am in Toledo.

I remember when Danny Thomas died and one of the local Toledo channels interviewed one of his brothers. I imagine by this time that brother has passed away but then again who knows, he could still be alive but very old.

These days you never know. Many people are living very long lives now. Danny Thomas was born one hundred two years ago, but he had nine or ten siblings. Out of that number, chances are one or more could still be alive. Vivian Vance was born one hundred five years ago and a sister of hers is still alive.

I noticed in the article that his parents had passed away in the 1940's and early 1950's. I wonder where Actor Danny was in age with his brothers.

I was wondering the same thing. I've been searching around a bit trying to find out the answer to that question, but I'm coming up short. All I've found is that he was one of nine children.

In the process of trying to find out information about his siblings, I instead came across articles written by some guy, born in 1960, who calls himself Christopher Thomas and claims he is the son of a prostitute who was impregnated by Danny Thomas and then adopted away to protect Thomas's image. He goes on to say that his own son, born around 1991, had serious health issues and was turned away at the age of 20 months by St. Judes. He blames Marlo and has a couple blogs where he's endlessly ranting about her. Here's a link to one of his rants. Could this guy be legit, or just another crackpot trying to cash in on a famous deceased person who's no longer here to defend himself? It wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

When brother Daniel was listed last, I assumed that he was the youngest of the brothers.

Little Ricky.
I can't imagine Danny getting involved with another woman and having a child. He just doesn't seem the type. BUT you never know!

Sherry Jackson (Terry) gave an interview a few years ago where she said that Danny was very close with Rusty Hamer's mother, and that's why Rusty was allowed to run wild on the set. She also said that he was behind closed doors with her frequently, and wondered if there was something more going on.

I did read years ago about Rusty early life and read his father died young. He probably looked to Danny as a father figure on and off the set.
With a dad gone, Rusty's income helped his mother. I just tend to think Danny was helpful in Rusty's upbringing and no romance ever took place with his mother.

Danny Thomas (aka Amos Jacobs and Muzyad Yakhoob) was the fifth son born to Charles and Margaret. His only sister was born just after him. There were 10 children in all.

In the Toledo Blade article about his younger brother Paul's death, Danny Thomas isn't listed among the surviving family members because he is listed above in the title and the body of the article. The youngest Daniel and the eldest Thomas listed as survivors are his brothers, the ones he borrowed first names from to make his stage name "Danny Thomas".

In order of age, the family are: Thomas, William, Frederick, Raymond, Amos (Danny Thomas), Emily, Paul (the one who died in 1955), Edward, Samuel, Daniel.

The article lists surviving family according to their locations, not their ages. I see how it can be confusing.

As for the plight of Christopher Thomas, I gave up reading because he fails to get to the point. He rambles on and on, making himself look bad, rather than Marlo, and his own mother, the ones he's attacking. If anyone has read it and wants to condense it, I'll read that. Other than that, I'm not interested in his whining. Yes, there's a resemblance but just like having a name changed legally, people can have their faces changed too. Just because he looks something like a famous person doesn't mean anything. There are many people who look like famous people. The guy could be the son of someone else in Danny's extended family. Let him whine if he wants, I don't have to listen.

Danny Thomas was human. I'm sure he had faults. I'm glad he entertained me for many years and is still entertaining me through the magic of reruns.

Vivian Vance's youngest sister, Lou Ann, also an actor and acting instructor, was much younger than Viv who was born in 1909. Her sister was born circa 1926 and is still around, in fact, she will be making an appearance at the Albuquerque Little Theatre this Saturday (Sept. 13th) during the current “Everybody’s Neighbor: Vivian Vance" celebration in that city.

The younger brother of Danny Thomas who spoke after his death was Edward Jacobs who died in 2002. He and Danny (Amos) were the last remaining of their family of 10 children.

In the book, Make Room For Danny, he mentioned that most of his siblings were deceased, some lost their lives tragically. He talked about brother Paul who died in the car accident. He didn't mentioned how his brother Raymond died. Ray was the brother Danny (Amos) performed with in their earliest days in showbusiness.

Ray died tragically and painfully of injuries suffered in a house fire in 1972 at age 62. His home caught fire and he suffered burns necessitating hospitalization in UCLA Medical Center. He was there about three weeks when he died. Cause of the fire was said to be a faulty humidifier or smoking. Their youngest brother Daniel had died in January of that year. Daniel was only 48.

Ray used the name Buddy Thomas when entertaining. He was also a writer, songwriter, and producer. He was working on a book about Danny Thomas at the time of the fire. Most of his work was lost in the fire. Ray's son, Ronald Jacobs, was a producer of The Danny Thomas Show and worked in production until recently.

Being an Andy Griffith Show diehard brought me to this site because of a mystery that I am attempting to solve. If you research the
"Toledo Blade" you will find that it mentions that Danny Thomas brought his siblings out to California and got them jobs. At least one of his brothers is credited with a speaking line on the Danny Thomas Show, and Tom frequently appears (without speaking) on the Andy Griffith show. Tom is almost always accompanied by a mystery girl whom I believe is his sister Emily. Andy Griffith Show fans make a big deal out of trying to discover her identity...(she never speaks). But I have spotted her in this extra role on many other Danny Thomas related shows.. Make Room for Dady, Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, and in one scene in I love Lucy-where she is on a Hollywood Tour bus, with what appears to be at least four of her brothers. I have been unable to find a photograph of her to prove my case. The Toledo Blade gives her last name as Emily Zanger (in Los Angeles) unable to find anything about her except that she was Danny Thomas' only sister.

Emily Jacobs, sister of Danny Thomas, was married three times. Those surnames were:

(Joseph Henry) POINTINGER (only lasted a few years in the 1930s)
(Walter L.) ZANGE (married in 1940)
(Edward S.) DYKE (married in 1961)

In the 1950s, she may have been credited as Zange. After 1961, she may have been credited as Dyke.

The Toledo Blade (as other newspapers) often misspelled names. I've seen her erroneously listed as "Van Dyke" in the Blade rather than "Dyke". Her third husband's name was originally Dajkowski but by the time they were married, he was using Dyke.

I have one pic of Emily with all of her brothers. Click on the pic to enlarge. It can be found here:

Danny had 8 brothers and 1 sister. They are all deceased now, but here are their names:

Thomas J. Jacobs 1903-1976
William J. Jacobs 1905-1981
Fred F. Jacobs 1907-1978
Raymond J. Jacobs 1910-1972
Emily Mary Jacobs-Dyke 1914-1981
Paul George Jacobs 1916-1955
Edward Peter Jacobs 1919-2002
Samuel S. Jacobs 1920-1980
Daniel Alfred Jacobs 1923-1972

The oldest brother (Thomas) appeared as an extra in over 60 episodes of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW usually seen wearing a white fedora hat.

No, never did. Only knew his other brother ( Ronald) who exec-produced the show!
