I downloaded a bunch of these episodes, a few years ago, but have not watched them (I know, stupid)... I remember reading similar accounts of the show and was curious. Now I guess I'll go dig them up and make some DVDs to watch...

I never saw this show and from the looks of it, I don't want to. I wasn't around but I remembered Sanford and Son.

If you like S&S then you'll probably enjoy A&A as well. There were many similarities between the two shows and some of the actors from A&A were given work on S&S by Redd Foxx who was huge fan. What is it about 'the looks" that turned you off before you even turned it on?

Oh No

Lame excuses I've heard from people who refuse to watch the show:

It's in black & white
The FCC banned it (not so)
They used the n-word too much (never did)
It was before my time
My parent/grandparents didn't like it
I don't like the looks of it
It's not on DVD (official release)
The NAACP is against it

Etc......

Blacks are stereotyped on TV all the time in this day and age. It's most easily noticed in commercials.

I loved Amos and Andy. It made me laugh. The humor was great and as I watched I never thought....Negros, dumb and stupid or lazy.

It's a great show. It is very tame compared to the shows nowadays. Most of the sitcoms that aired on UPN were a lot more stereotypical than Amos 'n" Andy ever was.

I'm black and I think Amos and Andy was hilarious. The comedy and lines were well written and well delivered. I think Tim Moore as the Kingfish was a comedic genius and Spencer Williams was the perfect "comic foil" as Andy. The only real stereotype on the show was the character "Lightnin" who unlike his name moved and talked slow. The lawyer "Calhoun" was only offensive to Lawyers not black people.

I wasn't around then. It just looks more dated.
