It's not a great show either but it's not as bad as so many people make it out to be. I just watched all 10 seasons of "Friends" on DVD and now I'm watching both seasons of "Joey". The biggest thing against it is that I miss Chandler, Monica, Ross, Rachel and Phoebe. Joey was a great character in an ensemble cast but it's hard to see him as the main character without all the friends around. The other thing is that the cast isn't as strong as the "Friends" cast. If you're going to make a spin-off of one of the most popular shows with one of the strongest casts assembled, you have to assemble another strong cast for the new show. Not that these were bad characters. I like Michael and Alex but I don't care at all about Gina. Also, to go from six main characters down to four (with a recurring agent) made the show feel smaller as it certainly made Joey's world smaller - less friends to hang out with (and two of those friends he hangs with are family).
However, I still laugh at the show and find it enjoyable. So as I said in the title of this thread, It's not such a bad show. BTW, I'm in the middle of season one as I'm writing this thread. So if it gets better or worse, I can comment on that when I get there. |
