Default A Valentine For Vivian

True story...

After Jack Benny died, a TV special on Valentines Day celebrating his career was made called "A Valentine for Jack Benny."

After Vivian Vance died in 1979, I often wished that Lucille Ball would do some type of tribute to her co-star and friend, like "a Valentine for Vivian."

After Lucille passed on in 1989, it appeared that my wish would not take place.

Then, in the early 90's. a local Los Angeles TV show made mention of the fact that Ethel Mertz never did have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Over 2000 angry callers flooded the station, demanding an explanation to this oversight.

On Valentine's Day 1991, 40 years after I LOVE LUCY, Lucie Arnaz graciously payed the $5000 fee, and Vivian received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The I Love Lucy writers, Gale Gordon, and Vivian's remaining sister were present for the ceremony.

Vivian really did get her Valentine.

I was really really touched.

I agree! To think such a wonderful actress would have been snubbed for a star in the first place is outrageous...

Default Vivian vance was 1 of the best

I thought vivian vance was so wonderful and such a down to earth actress, i dont think anyone who loves i love lucy would turn away from a show called i love vivian. too bad they havnt made a movie for tv about viv,s life story. lucy was to shattered when viv died i heard she went into depresion for a bit, and all she would do was play backgammon. lucy we miss u and vivian we miss u too. an good for you lucy arnez for that kind thing u did for viv,s fans for witch i am 1

I love the fact that Vivian's fans were instrumental in getting her the star on the Hollywood walk of fame! If I would've been older back then, I would've probably been one of those 2000 people complaining that she never received her star, ha ha!

How fitting it is that Lucie Arnaz as is the one that's made it happen ultimately. It kind of made up for the fact that Lucille Ball didn't have a part in. It kind of makes me mad that she didn't, while she was alive. But, I best not be too bitter… I just think so highly of their relationship and all…
