This show used to come on saturday mornings in the 80's & it was Richard Pryor's show. R&B singer Ray Parker Jr did the theme song & Richard played different characters on this show & he had some other people on this show. This show was catered to kids. How long did it last? I remember it didn't last that long but it was pretty good. I don't remember a lot about the show but i do remember watching it when i was a kid.

Pryor's Place was created/produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, the mad genius brothers behind tons of '70s kiddie shows like HR Pufnstuf, Lidsville, Land of the Lost, etc. By the early '80s, the Krofft wave was over. Pryor's Place hit the air in September of '84, and being so far removed from the other Krofft hits, it's usually not associated with the Krofft brothers (not to mention that the kids who grew up with shows like Sigmund and the Sea Monsters were too old to be watching kiddie shows when Pryor came along).
As you remembered, Pryor played a slew of different characters. In a Cosby-ish tradition, stories were played out from his childhood and he'd interact with the younger characters, offering advice and guidance. Guest-stars were abundant and a moral was always achieved. 13 episodes of the series were made and ran on CBS on Saturday mornings from '84-85. I think four volumes are available on video from Rhino. There's also an episode available in the "World of Sid and Marty Krofft" boxed set, also released by Rhino. |
