Default No Season 3 on YouTube or Hulu...

Why are there not any complete episodes of S3 of Patty Duke Show on YouTube or Hulu.com? Plenty of other classic shows are represented on both sites but no Duke show. I purchased S1 and S2 on DVD but wanted to watch S3 online rather than buy it........

To be honest, The Patty Duke Show is really a very small niche audience show. That The Patty Duke Show is on DVD AT ALL, much less all three seasons, is a minor miracle in itself, so I'm not terribly surprised that Hulu and YouTube don't have season three available for online viewing. Also, I'm sure SHOUT Factory and MGM probably police YouTube to keep the episodes from being uploaded illegally to protect their interests (selling DVDs of the shows).

Cathy, I didn't know that the studios who produce the DVDs could prevent the episodes of their shows being uploaded to youtube. That's interesting. I'm wondering why some tv shows are available for hulu and youtube and some aren't. Like you said, I guess the studios can prevent it.

I guess one could consider this show to be somewhat niche, but actually it was pretty mainstream at the time of original airing, right? I mean, I would think it was much more mainstream than say The Monkeys, My Mother The Car, Love On a Rooftop and The Mother's-In-Law.

They can't prevent them from being uploaded, but they can and often do take action to have illegally uploaded shows taken down and often accounts of repeat offenders closed. I don't know much about how Hulu works, but I think the studios themselves control what goes on Hulu and what doesn't.

In its day, The Patty Duke Show was very much a mainstream series, as Patty Duke was a popular actress. Time hasn't been kind to Patty and Cathy's show, partially because it was filmed entirely in black and white, and partially because it is very much a product of its time, and of course, as Patty Duke herself faded from the spotlight, her show was not in as much demand. Many shows such as this tend to languish in a dusty old studio vault, mostly because they don't appeal as much to the coveted 18-39 age group demographic. I suspect that the DVD release owed a lot to the fans who may have discovered Patty and Cathy through Nick-at-Nite reruns, such as myself. I'm personally happy to have all three seasons of this show on DVD, as I never expected I'd see them again after Nick-at-Nite stopped running them.

Cathy Lane was barely in season 3....A grown-up mature hairdo, a much improved conservative wardrobe, her newly acquired English accent, a bit of sass, and those infamous false eyelashes....all gone to waste for her total of "10 minute or less" appearances per episode or not even show up at all.

I'm watching now. It's been so long since I've seen the show. I can see that Cathy is getting more over the shoulder shots and scenes without Patty. This is my favorite season and it is disappointing to see this. I guess Patty was getting tired.

Odd season to be honest after the comfortable New York setting of the 1st & 2nd season. Must of been these new Hollywood producers idea to focus more on the outgoing cousin's situations because Miss Duke hated playing the wacky "Patty Lane" character.
