Here's Lucy - Season Six DVD Review - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

After nearly two and a half decades, the time came in 1973 for Lucille Ball to begin her final season of her final regular series for CBS... and now, MPI brings that final season of Here's Lucy to DVD in a four disc set. Lucy's third major series follows Lucy Carter (Lucille Ball) and her brother-in-law Harry (Gale Gordon) as they make it through everyday life at Carter's Unique Employment Agency... which actually closed down at the end of the fifth season! As explained by Lucie Arnaz (who plays daughter Kim, now a recurring character for this season), the fifth season ended with an episode that was planned to be the final episode where the employment agency actually closed, but a last minute decision by Lucille Ball to bring the series back for one final season required a bit of backtracking to create another season worth of episodes, including reopening the agency! In any event, we now get to enjoy the final 24 episodes of Lucy's weekly CBS series legacy (and, by the way, this is the final release among all of those) in MPI's release of Here's Lucy - Season Six.

Here's Lucy does have some funny episodes, but I prefer The Lucy Show over Here's Lucy. I have all six seasons of The Lucy Show on DVD, now that Here's Lucy is also complete on DVD, I might eventually decide to get those as well but don't have plans to purchase at this time. If I could find a great deal and get all 6 seasons for real cheap, I'd probably go for that.

That was a good review of the series. I'm going to get this eventually, I'll always be a Lucy fan of all her series even Life With Lucy.

Bought it and now own it. Glad I got all 6 seasons but seasons 1-3 is still my fave.

I received my season 6 dvd set today!! Its so cool to have all 3 shows (I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, and Here's Lucy) all complete and lined up together on my shelf.

For years, I wondered why Here's Lucy was never rerun. After watching the entire series on DVD now, I can understand why. They show is largely forgettable, but the main reason is that it is so inferior to I Love Lucy asnd The Lucy Show. I know Lucy adored Gale Gordon, but to me, without Desi Arnaz or Vivian Vance, the Lucy character slowly but surely grows annoying and almost unlikable. In Here's Lucy at the beginning of the series, we see many shades of Lucy Carmichael, but as time goes on, the character loses her charm and likability, and becomes sort of a gravely-voiced somewhat-affluent woman who works as a secretary but doesn't really need to . The crazy, mixed-up situations are not nearly as funny as earlier Lucy series. Instead, you sit there asking yourself, "Lucy Carter knows better than that!" or "They really don't believe what they are doing, do they?"

In summary, situations comedies have a definite end. No matter how great a show is, no matter how funny a character, it is time to take a bow at some point, and Here's Lucy took its bow about 3 years late. As a matter of fact, The Lucy Show could have ran until 1970/1971, and Lucy would have been just fine to have ended her TV career after 20 years instead of 23.

The main difference in Here's Lucy compared to The Lucy Show is, Lucy's son and daughter were now in the cast, and Gale Gordon now ran an employment agency instead of being a banker. Otherwise, the two shows are fairly similar, both series have merit but I prefer The Lucy Show over Here's Lucy. Here's Lucy has more of a 70's vibe and The Lucy Show has a 60's vibe. In Here's Lucy, Lucy's age was starting to show and she was getting that gravelly smokers voice. Now that all of Here's Lucy is out on DVD, eventually I might add the series to my DVD library if I can get it for real cheap. It would be a good companion series to go along with The Lucy Show. I don't plan to get I Love Lucy on DVD, I will watch episodes once in a while if they appear on TV but I'm not interested to have the DVD's.

I remember watching Here's Lucy as a kid, during it's original broadcast run, and thinking the show was HILARIOUS... Nostalgia is a big part of my enjoyment of the DVD releases but yeah, some of the weaker episodes and situations make me groan.

After watching all 6 seasons on DVD I still prefer the first 3....it was a bit more family-oriented instead of the wacky/celebrity junked up hijinks of later seasons.

Hmm...I could make the EXACT same argument about The Lucy Show.
