What better way to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of the O.J. Simpson murder trial and acquittal than with a feature film that promises “startling facts” and a “fresh perspective” surrounding the murders of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman?

Friday, Forsport Enterprises announced that the film — entitled An American Mystery – was set to go into production for a major theatrical release in the summer of 2014.

Joshua Newton will be directing the effort with $65 million at his disposal from a group of venture capitalists and fund managers, according to the announcement. Newton is somewhat of an unknown, but most recently directed the late Roy Scheider in Justice/Vengeance (previously titled Iron Cross), which has yet to be released.

In the announcement Newton said: “An American Mystery has the capacity to challenge entrenched attitudes on a topic that has inspired visceral reactions for almost a generation.”

He added: “Our goal is to lay bare the facts and have the audience reach their own conclusions.”

As far as casting goes, details are sparse. The release only specifies that the role of Nicole Brown-Simpson will be played by Charlotte Kirk, whose first major role will be in Non-Stop, which stars Liam Neeson (out Feb. 28, 2014).

Fox is also developing a mini-series based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
