TV FearNet Picks Up Off-Network Rights for "Reaper", Sets Reunion Special

FearNet Picks Up Off-Net Rights To Cult Dramedy "Reaper", Sets Reunion Special
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Monday April 8, 2013

In its first off-network deal, FEARnet has licensed cult CW comedic drama "Reaper".

In addition to picking up the entire two-season, 31-episode run, FEARnet will produce a half-hour special reuniting some of the original cast and crew of the show, on which they will discuss the series’ continuing popularity post-cancellation, its finale and their rabid community of fans in a round-table format.

Set to appear in the special are "Reaper" stars Bret Harrison, Tyler Labine and Ray Wise, among others.

"Reaper" will premiere June 4 on FEARnet and anchor the horror-themed cable channel’s Tuesday night Twisted Comedy Block at 9 PM, leading to FEARnet’s original comedy series "Holliston", whose second season will premiere the same night.

Many Reaper viewers feel the show left too early, so we hope that they will enjoy our plans for the series and our Reaper reunion special,” said Sarah Shannon, VP Programming and Network Operations at FEARnet.

Created by Michelle Fazekas and Tara Butters and produced by ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co, "Reaper" centers on Sam Oliver (Harrison), a college dropout who on his 21st birthday learns that he must work as a bounty hunter for the Devil (Wise) as part of a deal made many years ago when Sam’s parents offered up their first-born son in exchange for good health for the ailing father.

Labine and Rick Gonzalez play Sam’s slacker friends who help him in his new secret double-life of “reaping” souls, using a Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner and other modern household items.

The series ran on the CW from 2007-2009.

"Reaper" Reunion: Cast Gathers For FEARnet Special Airing May 28
4/29/13

The "Reaper" cast gathered on Wednesday, April 24 to film the reunion that fans of the beloved The CW series have been waiting for.

"Reaper", which starred Bret Harrison as Sam Oliver, a college drop-out forced to become a bounty hunter for the Devil (Ray Wise) as part of a deal his parents made long ago, lasted for 31 episodes from 2007 to 2009.

Angie Greenup hosted the reunion, which included stars Harrison, Wise, Tyler Labine, Rick Gonzales, Ken Marino, Christine Willes and series creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. The reunion will air on FEARnet on Tuesday, May 28 at 9 p.m. ET.

FEARnet will also air the entire series with reruns debuting on Tuesday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET.

Look for the cast to share on-set anecdotes, favorite moments form the show and inside info -- like the fact Louis C.K. auditioned for the role of the Devil -- and discuss the possibility of a Kickstarter campaign to resurrect "Reaper".

I’m so happy that FEARnet is doing this,” Wise, who won the part of the Devil on "Reaper", said in a statement. “It really warms my heart having us all back together again.
