10 IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE SHOWBIZ CAREER OF SCOTT BAIO :
1. His first starring role came in director Alan Parker's kiddie gangster musical "Bugsy Malone" (1976) where he portrayed the title character opposite Jodie Foster as femme fatale Tallulah. Presently, it is a popular cult movie with a devoted following. 2. He was later reunited with Jodie Foster in the teen girl drama "Foxes" (1980) helmed by Adrian Lyne. Movie reviewer and historian Daniel Peary commented in his book "Guide For The Film Fanatic": "Jodie Foster is terrific. Several scenes she has with Sally Kellerman (as her mother), Cherie Currie, the lead singer of the all-girl rock band The Runaways (as a tragic friend), and AN EXCELLENT SCOTT BAIO (especially their chat in her pickup truck) are memorable and much more meaningful than we're used to seeing in youth-oriented films." 3. He won two Young Artists Awards during the Third Annual Youth In Film Awards (1980-1981) as Best Young Actor In A Television Special for "Stoned" and Best Young Comedian In Television Or Motion Pictures for "Happy Days". 4. He received two Emmy nominations for his critically-acclaimed leading performances in "Stoned" (1980-1981) and "All The Kids Do It" (1984-1985). 5. He became a successful television director working on a variety of programs and even signed up with Thirty Second Films, a known production firm specializing in TV commercials. 6. He and his brother Steven co-produced "Very Mean Men", a gangster comedy involving a mob war between two syndicate families (Ben Gazzara, Charles Durning, Louis Fletcher, Burt Young, Martin Landau and Matthew Modine headed the cast), wherein he also enacted the pivotal role of impetuous crime scion Paulie Minetti. His astonishing performance garnered this laudatory quote from Variety: "A career-reviving turn by Scott Baio with hair dyed blonde and sporting a white goatee." 7. He and Jeffrey Gurian co-wrote "Face To Face" (a.k.a. "Italian Ties"), a bittersweet comic drama about three young men (Scott Baio, Thomas Calabro and Carlo Imperato) who kidnap their emotionally distant fathers (Dean Stockwell, Alex Rocco and Joe Viterelli) for a camping trip weekend of genuine male bonding. This movie won the Audience Prize for Best Comedy at the Marco Island Film Festival, the Silver Screen Accolade in the Reno Film Festival, and the 10 Degrees Hotter Best Feature Award during the Valley Film Festival. 8. He earned three Best Lead Actor prizes in the Atlantic City Film Festival, the Kansas City Halfway To Hollywood Film Festival, and the San Diego Film Festival for portraying the sympathetic male hero in Melissa Martin's "The Bread, My Sweet" (a.k.a. "A Wedding For Bella"). This gentle romance starred Mr. Baio as Dominic Pyzola who's both a hard-edged corporate raider in the daytime and a kind-hearted local baker at night. Said independent motion picture also collected multiple top accolades from the Santa Monica, Stony Brook, Marco Island, Houston Worldfest and Iowa Hardacre Film Festivals. 9. He was one of the famous guests representing the entertainment community in quiet and respectful attendance during the historical ceremonies of the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan's widely-televised state funeral. The New York Daily News published Michelle Caruso's article "A Goodbye As The Sun Sets In The West" (dated June 12, 2004) which mentioned Scott who had been visibly seated near former U.K. Prime Minister and Baroness Margaret Thatcher: "Scott Baio, who played Chachi on the hit sitcom Happy Days said: President Reagan made me feel proud to be an American. Today, I feel great sadness." 10. One of his most recent and publicized onscreen roles is that of the madcap Bluth family's curiously named lawyer Atty. Bob Loblaw during the third hilarious season of the cult sitcom "Arrested Development". |

"I called First Lady Nancy Reagan and told her: 'I want to come to your husband's funeral.'
I had campaigned for him in 1984. I thought he was a great man. The Reagan funeral, in all seriousness, was one of the most amazing things I've ever been around in my life. It was most awesome and kick-ass. I could talk about that for an hour. On the news, it went from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Margaret Thatcher to ME! I'm sure America was going: 'How in the hell did that happen?? What's Baio doing with Thatcher? Is he going to date her?' But honestly, I don't want to disrespect Margaret Thatcher. Seriously, no disrespect to The Iron Lady." - SCOTT BAIO remembers attending the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan's state funeral and meeting former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during his interview with Mandi Bierly, Entertainment Weekly: July 13, 2007. |
