I was listening to commentary on a Norm episode and he said "now that we have Artie Lange on the show all the writers we got from the Drew Carey show are happy because they love fat jokes"

i wonder if ABC was cheap? or if the writers were just really good

I think the Norm Show was created/produced by the guys from Drew Carey. It definitely had the same vibe as the Drew Carey Show, so I'm not surprised that it was the same writers.
