This Monday marks 30 years ago that The Doctors and Texas went off the air. I barely remember either show because I was young.
Today, I watched the Christmas Miracle and the final episode of Texas. WOW What a wonderful show. The early episodes don't seem that good to me. However, Texas had really started to get good right before it went off the air. Too bad NBC didn't stick with it a little longer. One of the best finales I have ever seen. I also watched the Dec 25 1981 episode of The Doctors (Didn't have their final Christmas in 1982). I also watched the final episode. I have heard how horrible this show was at the end but it seemed interesting to me. By the point, The Doctors had moved to the noon death time slot. So not many people were able to watch even if the wanted to. All of these are on youtube. I miss the old days of soap operas. |

I remember watching The Doctors with my Aunt at her house, when I stayed at her house when we were on vacation.

That was back in the good old days when network execs, writers, producers, etc. actually cared about soaps and were committed to making them as good as possible.

I've also watched the final episodes of both soaps on YT and it's a world of difference how much better things were back in the early 80's compared to now. Of course, soaps didn't have competition from reality shows, there weren't hardly any 24 hour networks, no internet to spoil plotlines and for the most part, you had to watch the shows "live" as VCR's were expensive. So viewers were more invested in what happened.

You're so right about SB - it ran from July 30, 1984 to January 15, 1993. WOW, time flies.
