Default Happy 35 to CBN Cable Network/Family Channel/Fox Family/abc family

Hey guys,

35 years ago, we were introduced to the CBN Satellite Network

Pat Robertson-Founder of CBN-Christian Broadcasting Network which began broadcasting in 1961, introduced us to a 24 Hour Network called the CBN Satellite Network following the success of Ted Turner's SuperStation WTCG later SuperStation WTBS

CBN aired 24 hours of Religious Programming, but by the 1980's, it became known as The Family Entertainer airing Classic Programs including Short-Lived Programs

Classic TV Westerns like Wagon Train, The Big Valley, The Rifleman, Iron Horse, The Virginian, The Campbells, Gunsmoke, Cimarron Strip, Laredo, Empire, Wild Bill Hickok, Here Come the Brides, The Monroes, Alias Smith and Jones to even the cult favorite The Lone Ranger and even Classic TV Sitcoms from Jack Benny to Burns & Allen to Blondie to Father Knows Best to Bachelor Father to The Flying Nun to Hazel to The Bill Cosby Show to The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis to even Green Acres

CBN also aired short-lived programs from the 80's from Hell Town Starring Robert Blake of Baretta Fame and the late Whitman Mayo of Sanford & Son Fame to A.D. to Crazy Like a Fox to Bring'em Back Alive

CBN was also the place for Movies from the Nabisco Family Showcase, CBN Movie of the Week, Sunday Morning Westerns, Sunday at the Westerns, Roy Rogers in Western Theater, Western Classics Sunday at the Movies, Overnight Movie and the CBN Double Feature Theater

CBN also gave us Family Fun from Cartoons to the likes of Superbook, The Flying House, Davey and Goliath, Honey Honey, Leo the Lion, Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch, Valley of the Dinosaurs, The Space Kidettes to LIVE Action Shows like The Gospel Bill Show to the Children's Program Our Friends on Wooster Square w/Singer Grace Markay and even Classic Game Shows from Let's Make a Deal, The Original Blockbusters, The Original Card Sharks, The Original Chain Reaction and the spin-off GO, Face the Music, The NEW $100,000 Name That Tune, Let's Make a Deal to Barry & Enright Classics such as BULLSEYE, Hot Potato & The NEW Tic Tac Dough to even You Bet Your Life w/the late Groucho Marx

CBN was also the place for Classic MGM Shows from Medical Center to Daktari to Flipper to Maya to even the 60's Spy Classic The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and the spin-off The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.

CBN even had Classic Dramas from Ben Casey to I Spy to even everyone's favorite dog Lassie as well as Remington Steele

CBN also had original programs from Another Life to Gerbert to Doris Day's Best Friends to even American Snapshots and even CBN Promos Featuring the late Comic Impressionist Fred Travalena and Wink Martindale

and of course, CBN even had The 700 Club with Pat Robertson

after 11 years, the CBN Cable Network would later become The Family Channel in 1988

10 years later in 1998, Pat Robertson and his son Tim Robertson host of The NEW 700 Club would sell International Family Entertainment-The Parent Company of CBN/Family Channel to Fox Kids Worldwide and it would later become FFC-Fox Family Channel of FOX Family for short and 3 years later in 2001, Disney would acquire The Family Channel and it would later became abc family

CBN has also pave the way for the ACTS Network-American Christian Television System which would later become the Faith & Values Channel and later ODYSSEY and now, The Hallmark Channel

CBN Cable Network still lives on in our hearts forever, but the spirit of The CBN Family Channel still lives in The Hallmark Channel and INSP

and that's your look @ 35 years of the CBN Satellite Cable Network and its many changes

Cool post! I use to love CBN and The Family Channel. The later reincarnations - not so much. I do like some of the original ABC Family movies though.

P.S. I wish some company would put "Big Brother Jake" on DVD.

Thanks and I use to LOVE CBN and The Family Channel, too

but as for the other 2, I like Fox Family a whole lot better than abc family (even though I'm still a fan of Full House, Step By Step and Boy Meets World) but they do need to go back to being a Family Network instead of showing too many shows that don't belong on abc family

Thanks, I also think that they should bring back some old classic stuff like the ABC Weekend Specials which is what I miss so much and more

I do remember that and you are so right

also, I remember Fox Family aired other abc classics like The Partridge Family and Who's the Boss? which aired after The 700 Club

Batman also aired after The 700 Club and part of Funtown Afternoon during The Family Channel Years

Add me to the list that misses Family Channel and FOX Family.

ABCFamily wasn't that bad at first.

GMC, INSP, and Hallmark somewhat remind me of the Family Channel.

Hallmark Channel has always been a family network ever since 1984 when it was then known as the ACTS Television Network and back then, whenever I wasn't in school, whenever there were Soap Operas on after Game Shows, I would always flip channels to PBS, CBN, ACTS, SuperStation WTBS and WGN

Good Times

I've mentioned this before about how some shows on ABC Family dont belong on ABC Family. What shows would you put on there?

Like for 1, I would LOVE to bring back the ABC Weekend Specials and the ABC Afterschool Specials and so many others that haven't been seen on TV Reruns in years like the animated version of Fraggle Rock and probably put Snorks back on TV with original openings and not syndicated openings, but also, bring back Punky Brewster, too
