Default The Korean mother is spot on.

I lived in South Korea for several months and Jodi Long who plays the Korean mother is spot on of what most Koreans are like. Very traditional, strident, stubborn, tough people with an attitude. She is also the funniest person by far, and is what is keeping me in this show.

Honestly, except for the kick ass food and the beautiful girls, I did not much care for Korea. Very provincial, not friendly (with exceptions) and racist and xenophobic and outward in that regard. The place to me was gray and depressing with a lot of alcoholism and bad attitude, and this was SOUTH KOREA.

The actress who plays her is not of Korean descent but is Japanese on her mother side and one quarter Chinese and one quarter Scottish.

Sadly, not all Koreans would except Steve Byrne or Jodi Long, because they are not pure blooded (although Long would pass if she spoke Korean) and lots of Koreans believe in racial purity. A good episode would be the main actor meets a Korean American girl (played by Linda Park) and they come to meet the parents who do not accept him.

I like the Korean sister also (and she is beautiful if you like Asian women). However, she is full blooded Korean and I don't see why they could not find an actress that was half and half. But she is a good actress and that can be overlooked. I am an advocate of more Asian women on TV.

This is not a bad show, but I think it needs to be retooled.

Except for the Sullivan family, I would kill off all the other characters except for Brian Doyle Murray and start over. Especially Christine Ebersole and her horny old gal character and the ******** son. The love interest ambulance driver would go and have part of the story be about the main character, a half Korean/half Irish guy date women of both cultures.

Make it more about the family, Dan Lauria (who needs more work) and Jodi Long. Less about the bar. Is the younger sister character married? I thought I heard on one show (when the bar had to close) when the parents moved to her house and she had kids.
