I had a nice surprise last Tuesday night (6/26) to see Jerry Fogel on MeTV's "Groovy Tuesday" Love American Style rerun ("Love and the Guru"), and then an episode rerun last night ("Love and the Spaced-Out Chick") featured Herbert Rudley. Both actors were in secondary, end-credited roles, but it was nice to see them in roles other than their MiL parts. Fogel played a friend to Frank Sutton's character, and Rudley played the father of a Venusian woman played by Michele Lee who wanted to force her suitor into a "ray-gun" wedding. Rudley seems to excel at playing fathers of daughters who can scare their potential dates and suitors, as he did in MiL and also in a late (S6) episode of Leave It to Beaver, where he played the father of Wally's party date who scared both Wally and his own daughter.
Does anyone recall other actors from this series on Love American Style? I know Richard Deacon appeared once (front-credited even) as a man dating a woman played by Phyllis Diller, where they both took off lots of makeup and other stuff (Deacon took off a toupee, I'm pretty sure.). I doubt Eve Arden would've appeared on this show, but Kaye Ballard would've seemed natural for it, and Deborah Walley perhaps could've fit in to a part as well. |

This week MeTV's Groovy Tuesday's LAS rerun included Kaye in "Love and the Dream Burglar". She was front-credited, but her name was misspelled as "Kay Ballard". She played a woman who dragged her husband downstairs at night to fight off a burglar that she dreamed would be visiting them that night, then she's thrilled when an actual burglar shows up, though her husband's fallen back to sleep. The burglar was played by none other than Larry Storch. I guess he has a knack for burglarizing/robbing Kaye (or her neighbors).

Eve Arden appeared twice on Love, American Style in "Love and the New Roommate" and again in "Love and the Contact Lens" playing a mother, of course. Deborah Walley was in two segments "Love and the Guilty Conscience" and "Love and the Anxious Mama." Hebert Rudley was in "Love and the Fly" and "Love and the Hotel Caper" and Richard Deacon, along with the aforementioned story with Phyllis Diller, appeared in "Love and the Fountain of Youth". Oh yes, Kaye Ballard was in two other stories, "Love and the VIP Restaurant with Shelley Berman and "Love and the Soap Opera"
