Default Happy Days Pilot

I don't know how well this is known, but the pilot for Happy Days was a segment on Love AS, called Love and The Happy Days. Ron Howard, Anson Williams and Marion Ross are featured with Harold Gould as the father.

I remember seeing that particular episode when it first aired, and liked it very much...

Anybody know what season of Love, American Style the its on? I think its called Love, and the Happy Days. Ideally, I wish it was on the first season dvd release of Happy Days as an extra. But there are no extras.

That was a segment of a late Season 3 episode of Love, American Style that first aired on Feb. 25, 1972. So if the releases continue to be split seasons, it will appear in the sixth set of DVDs. Long wait ahead.

a couple of scenes from the episode were actually used in a second-season episode of Happy Days, #19- "Who's Sorry Now?" (9/24/74) - basically they were used as flashbacks.

I recently caught this on Me-TV and plan to transfer it myself on DVD just to have it, since this was never included on a Happy Days DVD set as a bonus. BTW, the segment was originally called "Love and the New TV". It was retitled for syndication.

A lot of Happy Days fans know about "Love, American Style". Its a very rarely seen pilot. If you ever watch Happy Days from the beginning on any station they start with Happy Days and not "Love, American Style". I wonder why?

Probably because the pilot has different cast members and a different house...maybe they think the episode wouldn't mesh with the rest of season 1?

Interesting trivia:

Love & The Happy Day features yet another Chuck Cunningham, Ric Carrot preceeding the 2 actors who played him on the series.

Harold Gould plays Richie Cunningham's father in the Happy Days pilot,(replaced by Tom Bosley) also played the father of Ann Marie in the pilot for That Girl (replaced by Lew Parker). Atleast he got to keep the role of Rhoda's father on Rhoda!
