Scott Baio headed back to TV for new sitcom
http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=645645>1=28101
Scott Baio headed back to TV for sitcom May 7, 2011, 11:17 AM EST Liz Kelly Nelson Zap2it It's been nearly two decades since Scott Baio livened up the primetime line-up with "Charles in Charge," but he'll be returning to series TV with Nick at Nite's new "Daddy's Home." Baio will play an actor who has to put his career on hold to be a stay-at-home dad to honor a promise to his wife so she can return to her pre-children life as a soap opera star, according to Deadline.com. (Quick: Someone tell the writers that soaps are going the way of the dodo. Mayhaps rewrite her to be a plucky talk show co-host?) Baio was last seen on TV on VH1's "Scott Baio is 45... and Single." On Friday, he tweeted the news to his 30,000 Twitter followers, writing "I've been wanting to do a kids show!" Baio is perhaps best remembered as "Happy Days'" Chachi Arcola. You know, the one who loved Joanie (Erin Moran). |

Good news after good news after good news.
First, the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in England. Then, the holy beatification of the late beloved Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Immediately afterwards, the violent death of the evil terrorist mastermind Osama Bin Laden. AND NOW, THE EAGERLY ANTICIPATED FUTURE TELEVISION SERIES OF SCOTT BAIO FOR NICK-AT-NITE !!! I am very much looking forward to this upcoming project which involves star Baio, friends Jason Hervey and Eric Bischoff as executive producers to be written by Tina Albanese and Pat Labyorteaux. On it's surface, the show's basic premise of pampered and spoiled TV actor David Hobbs (Scott's character), adjusting to his new life as an unprepared stay-at-home father who's trying to take care of his rambunctious children, seems highly promising. It ultimately sounds like a "Malcolm In The Middle" revisionist look at "Charles-In-Charge", but with the virtuous hero's selfish and troublesome alter ego Chaz as the main protagonist here instead. "Daddy's Home" does feel a lot like "CHAZ-IN-CHARGE-OF-MALCOLM". Perhaps to make things more interesting on the program, the kids could turn out as various pop culture representations of Scott Baio during his own legendary television career. For instance, the eldest might be the ambitious, responsible and efficient but controlling Charles. The second born may be the streetsmart, rebellious and trouble-making delinquent Chachi. And the youngest would become the mischievous little horndog Anthony or Frankie of "Blansky's Beauties" and "Who's Watching The Kids?" |

NICKELODEON GREEN LIGHTS SCOTT BAIO COMEDY
TV GUIDE: October 24, 2011 Nickelodeon has given the greenlight to its first-ever original comedy for Nick-At-Nite, the network announced. "Daddy's Home", a multi-camera half-hour comedy series stars Scott Baio as David Hobbs, a famous actor who transitions from having been America's favorite TV dad after ten years to becoming a real life stay-at-home father whose soap opera star wife is stepping back into the celebrity spotlight for a comeback. "Scott Baio is an actor known and beloved by today's Nick-At-Nite viewers, many of whom are parents," said Marjorie Cohn, President of Original Programming and Development at Nickelodeon. "His new project will put a contemporary and comedic twist on parenthood that will make for a great addition to our existing slate of family programming." Tina Albanese, Patrick Labyorteaux, Eric Bischoff, Jason Hervey and Scott Baio will be executive producers. "It's nice to be back home in an area where I'm completely comfortable and with a show idea that I love," Baio said. |

Nick At Nite’s first original scripted comedy pilot, Daddy’s Home, will become the programming block’s first homegrown live-action comedy series. I hear that Nickelodeon has given a 20-episode order to the multicamera project starring Happy Days alum Scott Baio. Daddy’s Home centers on David Hobbs (Baio), an actor who, after 10 years of starring as America’s favorite TV dad, becomes a stay-at-home father to honor the deal he made with his soap-star wife so she can return to the limelight. The project was created by writer-producer Tina Albanese (CSI) and actor Patrick Labyorteaux (Little House On The Prairie), who are executive producing with Baio as well as Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey. Nick is not commenting but at the time the network picked up Daddy’s Home to pilot in October, Nickelodeon’s president of original programming and development Marjorie Cohn said the show puts “contemporary and comedic twist on parenthood that will make for a great addition to our existing slate of family programming.”
This marks Baio’s return to scripted comedy series after a decade on the unscripted side, teaming with Hervey for Scott Baio Is 45 and Single, Scott Baio Is 46 and Pregnant, and Confessions Of A Teen Idol. Nick at Nite’s only previous original live-action scripted series was the short-lived 1991 sitcom Hi Honey, I’m Home, which originated on ABC with instant reruns on Nick at Nite, migrating to the cable outlet after ABC canceled it. On the animated side, the primetime and overnight block of Nickelodeon has aired Fatherhood. Daddy’s Home may soon have a companion — Nick At Nite recently greenlighted its second comedy pilot, Wendell & Vinnie, starring iCarly‘s Jerry Traino, created by Jay Kogen and executive produced by Aaron Kaplan. http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/ |
