The PT 73 in the show was a Vosper 77' This was a boat based on a Britsh design. Long shots were a real boat that at on time had belonged to Howard Hughes and used as a chase boat for the one and only flight of the Spuce Goose. Close ups were of a mock up built on a bardge. as the lagoon at Universal were they filmed was not deep enough for the real boat.

Actually PT-73 in the series was a license produced 70 foot Vosper licensed to Annapolis Yacht Company which built many through several builders in the states for allied navies.
The 70 foot Vosper was a British Power Boats design, and was used by several allied nations, and many went to the Soviet Union, however this type of PT boat was not used by the US navy, being smaller, and not suited to the greater distances, and the type of operations in the Pacific (i.e. Motor Gunboat type operations) |
