After ordering Once Upon a Time to series for this fall, Disney-owned ABC is staying in a fairytale mode by putting Beauty and the Beast in development for next season. Written by Jericho co-creator Jonathan E. Steinberg, the drama project is described as an epic fantasy re-imagining of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale. And just like most fairytale characters in Once Upon a Time, including Snow White and Prince Charming, those in Beauty and the Beast happen to have headlined a popular Disney movie. Steinberg is executive producing Beauty and the Beast with Mojo Films’ Gary Fleder and Mary Beth Basile for ABC Studios. Steinberg has experience with TV series adaptations. He most recently developed Fox’s drama Human Target based on the comic book.

George R.R. Martin Talks "Beauty and the Beast" Reboot
by Catherine Lawson posted Sep 26th 2011 "Game of Thrones" creator George R.R. Martin says he has "mixed feelings" about The CW's planned remake of "Beauty and the Beast". Martin served as a writer and producer on the original series, which aired on CBS from 1987 to 1990. Starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman as a smart, young D.A. and her man-beast guardian/lover, "Beauty and the Beast" was a modern take on the age-old fairy tale, in which Martin and his colleagues created a rich fantasy kingdom existing under the streets of Manhattan. In his online journal, Martin writes that although he loves the idea of introducing a whole new generation of viewers to the "Beauty and the Beast" world, he's nervous about the idea of modernizing it: "Part of the appeal of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the timelessness of the underlying love story." Admitting that he's not generally a fan of reboots, Martin says he wishes The CW team luck. "I hope they've seen the original series. I hope they love it as much as we do. I hope they keep the fantasy, the whole tunnel world, not just the Beast. I hope they keep Father and Mouse and Jamie and Pascal and all the other characters we peopled the tunnels with." Reminding us what made his team's version of "Beauty and the Beast" so unique, Martin adds: "I hope they keep the poetry: the sonnets, the readings from Shelley and Keats and Kipling, the deep love of books and words and literature that was so much a part of Vincent. Most of all, I hope they keep it smart." http://www.aoltv.com/2011/09/26/game...-beast-reboot/ |

B&B with Ron and Linda is one of my favorite shows. I have some of the VHS tapes. The show didn't last long but to me it's a classic.
