Real-Life Pan Am Stewardesses Review ABC's "Pan Am"
Real-Life Pan Am Stewardesses Review ABC's "Pan Am"
by Chris Harnick posted Sep 20th 2011 "Pan Am" is one of the most anticipated new shows of the fall 2011 TV season -- several AOL TV staffers gave the series a hearty "watch it!" after viewing the initial pilot -- but the show's toughest critics might actually be the women who lived Pan Am. That's why AOL TV gathered a group of real-life veteran Pan Am stewardesses and sat them down to watch the "Pan Am" premiere episode. The ladies, who all flew during the 1960s, weren't shy about sharing their opinions. Lone Pedersen Schweitzer (Pan Am 1964-1968) I did think it was very accurate, for most of the time. Carol Cosad Young (Pan Am 1964-1968) I think that they got the important parts right. The blue is a little... too blue, but the important stuff was done right. I think that the main thing that stuck out to me was that the hair had to be above the jawline. We all had to get haircuts and our hair had to be above the jawline. Shelia Saunders (Pan Am 1957-1960) My favorite part was the Bay of Pigs scene because I started flying on the DC6 which was a prop-plane. I loved that airplane, it was a real work horse, and it was just wonderful to see it again. Gladys del Valle Picket (Pan Am 1965-1967) I liked the part when they're all walking through the airport with the way that we were all taught to walk straight. All of the little girls would look up to us. Leslie Paine Anding (Pan Am 1965-1974) My favorite part was when the pilot gave her the wings. My husband and I will be married 43 years next week and he was a Pan Am captain. When he proposed to me it wasn't exactly like that but it was spontaneous like that. He didn't have a ring or anything and didn't for another couple of months after that. Anne Sweeney (Pan Am 1964-1975) I hope that when younger people see these women that they'll recognize that they really were a breeded part. I'm very glad that the show makes this point because when you compare Pan Am flight attendants to the women on "Mad Men" for example, they're all really repressed and they're all not really in control of their lives for the most part. They're all treated very badly by all of the men. http://www.aoltv.com/2011/09/20/real...1_lnk3%7C98387 |

I loved the pilot too.
It had a nice espionage twist to it. |

Were the stewardess that chummy with the pilots?. Also the pilots look young. I would think they would be in their early 30's.? Didn't they have a few years of training on smaller planes first? As for liking the show I felt it was a little jumble. I did get a kick of the woman with the son who said Stay away from my husband.
