1960's comedies in which the main character
got 1)Laid off from work,or 2)Got fired or 3)was not going broke, but other people mistakenly thought they were.Examples 1)"The Dick Van Dyke Show",in the good episode from the 1965-1966 season "Fifty-Four.Forty-Two or Work",Rob recalled another time they were laid off for a time, 2)On the ORIGINAL "The Jetsons",Mr.Spacely in every other episode fired George (but rehired him) and 3)-On "The Addams Family",the family thought Gomez(John Astin)was going broke, but he didn't.And on "Dennis the Menace"(I think it was either from the 1959-1960 first season or 1960-1961 second season,I'm not sure which)people thought mistakenly (thanks to Dennis and co.)that the Mitchells were broke.Know of any other shows where 1,2,or 3 happened?

Fred Flintstone got fired on a regular basis, usually through the courtesy of his big mouth.
On 'The Beverly Hillbillies' Mr. Drysdale was always firing Miss Jane. |

Another example of 2) people mistakenly thinking the family's gone broke,is in the pretty good 1969-1970 episode of "Green Acres"titled "Oliver Goes Broke".In that one,Oliver was mad, sure, but at least did appreciate what his neighbors did.

And another example of #2 is the so-so episode of "That Girl"called "Help Wanted",in which Donald reluctantly hires Ann,then fires her, despite the fact, that he,like everyone else, thinks she's doing a good job.The ending in which Ann gets Donald a replacement,is totally unexpected.
