Default Queer As Folk Ruined Me!

I admit that I am bisexual, but when I was channel surfing one night at the age of 16, i saw the show for the first time and saw the third episode and I got hooked after that. My dad caught me watching it and beat the s h i t out of me, giving me a bloody nose and a fat lip, and called the cable company the next day and told em to take showtime off, and they did that twenty minutes later after he called. He told them explicitly that it was Queer As Folk that made him not want it anymore. I had to tell everyone I got in a bike accident to cover up for what my dad did to me, I like the show, and I wish I could see it again, but now he blocks NBC whenever Will & Grace is on because the show involves gays. I guess he doesn't want me to be bisexual, but he can't stop that. Though I am 18 today, he STILL blocks them shows. He wants me to like girls and rap and s h i t like that like my brother, but I'm not. My mom really doesn't care, but dad was about to kick me out of the house at the age of 16. I've never seen my dad so angry.

So, my point is.....

Has Queer As Folk or any other show like that ruin your life?

That's a shame about your father. I really don't care if you're bisexual. I think you're still a good person

I can't say that a tv show has ever ruined my life. It is a pity about your father doing that to you.

Ugh. He has no right doing that. That pisses me off so much. Anyways, no. No show has ever ruined me. If anything, its made me better.

to hear what your father did to you makes me very very upset. i can't believe there are still people out there who are as narrow-minded as that. as for your question, no, there are no tv shows that have ruined me... my father is a compassionate man who understands and accepts my homosexuality. i wish you the best of luck

No show has ever ruined my life. My parents were liberal about TV shows. Your father has no right to beat you for any reason, especially a TV show.

Did he know you were Bisexual before hand or did he just beat you up because you were watching that show? Either way, it was wrong and I hope one day he can accept you for what you are.

Question

Your post confuses me Rainman. How exactly did 'Queer As Folk' "ruin your life"?
Are you telling me that you were straight untill you saw the show and it 'turned' you? Cos if you are I think you're a very confused young man who needs to take a step back from everything and work out what's really going on in your mind. No TV show can make a person gay.
Or are you saying that your father figured out you weren't straight when he caught you watching the show and this is why it ruined your life? If you father figured out you were bi because of that then he must be a mind-reader. I've been watching shows like 'Queer As Folk' and 'Gaytime TV' since I was about 14 and my parents still have no idea I'm gay!
If your life really is ruined then it's not the fault of some TV show - it's because of your family's ignorance.
Don't worry mate - you're life isn't ruined anyway. If you really are bi and you're sure of the fact then you need to put some distance between yourself and your father and find some people who understand you and accept you the way you are. My family are very homophobic too and I'm pretty sure my dad would beat the ***** out of me if he found out his only daughter is a lesbian. I can't change the way they feel anymore than they can change the way I feel. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and say "ok, this is the way I am, if you can't deal with that then I don't need you" - even if it is your own father you're saying it to.

Good luck with whatever happens.

your dad is an ass for beating you over that...... but my mom would be mad if she saw me watching Queer As Folk, which I have, just because of the nudity and oral sex and stuff....

I'm really sorry about you and your dad. Id like to think that if I ever thought I was gay and told my parents that they would understand, but I think that they'd react in the same way as your dad did. But...to answer your question, no, a TV show has never ruined my life, just made me stay home on Sunday nights.

You sound just like LucyFan. There is no way in hell that a TV show can make you question your sexuality.

yeah...that is bull. and if something so trivial as a tv show can make you question something so huge as your sexuality then you must be a pretty weak minded person.

I'm not sure Nathan said the show made him gay.Just that his father beat him up watching it. I think anyway.

Well, I tell ya what. Iowa is NOT the place you want to be. This state has to be one of the most homophobic, racist, narrow-minded states in the union, on account of all the freakin' old people that live here. My great-gradmother still calls black people "******s."

But your dad sounds like the typical Iowa small town homophobe. Sorry about that.

I know a guy who is bi (though he wouldn't admit it) and he went out singing with Up With People...and experimented, ya know? I think he was much happier.
