At a Stand Still: White Collar's Lack of Evolution

An editorial I wrote for my blog on WHITE COLLAR -

USA was never really a network on my radar back in 2009. Besides the occasional House or Law & Order: Special Victims Unit marathon, I wasn't really interested in any of their original programming. While shows like Monk and Burn Notice seemed interesting enough, I didn't care enough to ever tune in to either show. But then, that all changed when I saw promos for a new series, White Collar. It looked interesting enough... Bryce Larkin from Chuck plays a con man who joins the FBI to escape a prison sentence, and Kelly Kapowski is in it! Here's a show I have to watch, right? The premise seemed intriguing, and the cast happens to be one of the most likeable casts on television today, but three seasons in, and I'm already bored. Now, I know what you're all thinking... if I don't like it, why am I still watching? Well, I do happen to enjoy the show, and it's great filler programming for a Friday night when I'm home and there's nothing on and all I have to do is press play on my DVR, but that's all the show has become for me. It is far from appointment television. The problem I have with this show is that the plot, while it moves, always seems to go back to square one come its next season premiere. Nevertheless, I'm here to break down the good and the bad!
