The New Reimagined "Bosley" For The 'Charlie's Angels' Reboot Has Been Cast....
ABC's "Charlie's Angels" pilot has found its younger, hotter Bosley: Ramon Rodriguez, TV Line reports. Best known for his role as Leo Spitz in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," Rodriguez's previous TV credits include "The Wire" and "Day Break."
In the reboot, Bosley is described as a "charming and funny guy with GQ looks and Peter Pan smile who has great hacking skills and technical knowledge." While Zap2it's pick fit the bill -- cough Taylor Kinney cough -- Rodriguez definitely has the looks and smile for the part. As with the original series, he will also be made fun of a lot, but it's all in good fun. Rodriguez joins a cast that includes Minka Kelly ("Friday Night Lights" and "The Roommate"), Rachael Taylor (Also of "Transformers" fame) and Annie Ilonzeh as the new generation of sexy agents. http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethe...as-bosley.html

Ramon Rodriguez in 'Bosley boot camp' for new Charlie's Angels By Jamie Portman, Postmedia News April 14, 2011 SANTA MONICA, California - Actor Ramon Rodriguez is so excited about his involvement in the latest revamping of Charlie's Angels that he's prepared to accept its one downside: being away from his beloved New York City for large chunks of time. ABC Television's latest take on a lucrative franchise first introduced 35 years ago is being filmed in trendy Miami, with Rodriguez, 31, taking on the key role of Bosley, who serves as the Angels' trusted liaison with their elusive boss, the mysterious Charlie. But the good-looking actor had to ask himself an important question before accepting the role. And it had to do with his attachment to the city of his birth, and his determination to continue living there, even if it loses him some work opportunities. "The main reason I'm in New York is that I love New York. I was born and raised there, so you can't get more New York than me. I love it, I well and truly love it. It's where my family is. It's where my friends are. I go there and recharge, I reboot. It prepares me for when I come out here to California. There's an electricity there, an energy. I go out of my apartment, and I'm inspired immediately. There's just so much happening." But it's one thing to be away doing a movie like the recent Battle: Los Angeles, in which he played a young Marine officer who loses his nerve, or Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. These were short-term assignments, as were the two limited seasons of HBO's The Wire, in which he played Renaldo. If the new Charlie's Angels is a success, he'll definitely be in for the long haul. So when the network came knocking, he had some thinking to do. It was Drew Barrymore, one of the producers, who convinced him to accept. "Listen," she told him on the phone. "I see Bosley as the fourth angel." That excited Rodriguez immediately. Furthermore, he knew his casting -- which has received some criticism on the Internet -- would be good for the Hispanic-American acting community. "I think this is a whole new take on Bosley, obviously. After all, look who they cast!" When the pilot began shooting in South Florida last month, ABC immediately started beating the publicity drums for a show first launched in 1976 with Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as the Angels, and David Doyle as Bosley. The show acquired other Angels -- Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts -- during the original five-season run, but Doyle's Bosley remained a staple to the end. A new TV series was proposed in 1988 but it never happened. Then, in 2000, Drew Barrymore brought it to the big screen with herself, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu as the sexy crime-fighters, and a very funny Bill Murray as Bosley. Murray was absent from the 2003 sequel -- he and Liu had often clashed in the first movie and he didn't want to repeat the experience -- so he was replaced by comedian Bernie Mac. Rodriguez was initially worried that Bosley would be little more than comic relief, but he says it won't happen with this latest rebooting of the series. "What I didn't want was for him to be seen as the butt of the joke. I didn't want him just to be a kind of middle man between them and Charlie. I felt he could have a much more integral relationship. I see him as their mother hen, believe it or not -- extremely protective. I grew up with three sisters, so I relate to him a lot. My sisters tell me I've been preparing for this my whole life!" The newest trio of female sleuths will be played by Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood), Rachael Taylor (Transformers) and Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital), who becomes the franchise's first African-American Angel. But Rodriguez doesn't feel marginalized. The producers and writers of the new series have been open to input from its one male star, who was launched into a performance career when he won a Nike freestyle competition. "They're inviting me to put a lot of creative input into the process. So I'm really creating Bosley as we go. I'm in the Bosley boot camp right now. I have an idea of what I'd like to portray and it's completely different from what we've seen in past Bosleys." He also thinks fans will be surprised by the latest set of Angels, and promises they'll be "a lot more engaging." Robert Wagner will reportedly replace the late John Forsythe as the voice of Charlie. |
