1960's comedies that "pushed the envelope", but in a
nice way -not in a mean-spirited way ,like most(but not all)comedies of today do.Know of any?

"That Girl" was the first, I believe, to showcase a single woman trying to make it on her own in the big city (done better by the MTM show a few years later).
"Bewitched" was, arguably, the first to have a wife be the de facto alpha member of the household (Darrin was no wimp, and Sam did usually defer to him eventually but she was at the very least an equal partner in the marriage, which was a real rarity in 1964). You could probably say something similar with "The Addams Family" where Morticia always gave Gomez a run for his money as the dominant spouse. |
