This episode is so rip-roaring hilarious that I broke out laughing several times, which really annoyed my wife. In a bad mood because it's the wrong time of the month (I can't say it plainly because it upsets Archie's delicate ears), Gloria gets upset at her mother because of the way she lets Archie push her around. Since Edith went to a lot of trouble planning a birthday dinner for Gloria, Edith gets upset. Eventually all four of them are shouting at each other, and I have to admit that the dialogue is pretty funny.

And which one of the four has the brains to solve the problem?
It's our girl, I mean, our woman, I mean our person, anyway, Edith show more sense that the other three combined and she straightens everything out.

Sally Struthers has said the idea for this episode came from her. Initially, Norman Lear and the show writers were hesitant, but it turned out to be hysterical.
