He mentioned in a interview and back in 1978 that he should receive some credit for all the spinoffs. Why?? Was it him who discovered Bea Arthur? Sherman Hemsley? Esther Rolle? They only became spinoffs because Lear took a chance on the characters so why did he feel he deserved credit? Yes they got their start on a show that was number 1 but Carroll played no part in discovering these actors.

I don't think O'Connor was any more a pain in the butt than most lead actors in a successful show. Look, when you are an actor in a sea of talented actors, when success comes along, you try your best to ride it into the sunset. How many times have we heard lead actors developing huge egos, demanding incredible salaries, etc? He is just a part of the norm.
