Confused Do You Think The Stephanie Character Would've Worked Better If She Was A Teenager?

Was the Stephanie character too young for this adult sitcom? Would it have been better if she was cast as a teen instead of a little girl?

It was always stupid to me for a child to be added to a show that was an adult comedy for 8 years. And no it wouldn't have worked if she was a teenager

I agree it was probably a culture shock to viewers to go from adult comedy to family comedy, but at least with a teen, you could deal with more adult-like storylines.

When the Stivics moved to California, AITF should have ended then.

Yeah but CBS wasn'y to quick to end a show that was still bringing in good ratings

As to the question of Stephanie, she DID age from about 9 to 14 during the course of the two shows, and I always thought that Brisebois was as good a choice for the role as they could have made. She had good chemistry with O'Conner and the cast.

The problem wasn't her age, it was that she was stuck on a show where 90 percent of the conflict was gone, and the whole reason for the series with it. The show wasn't about Archie Bunker, it was about the Bunker family, and with 75 percent of them gone, carrying on was just an exercise in greed.

I also think they should have ended the show after M&G moved to California, but if I'm honest I did enjoy alot of those later episodes with Steffy because her and Archie played off of each other quite well so I guess all in all I didn't see it as a mistake and I like that she was a little girl. It brought out a softer side to Archie.

I thought Stephanie at the just the age she was, worked for the show. It was nice seeing Archie be a dad to a "little goil" - who really was a little girl - and doing a surprisingly tender job of it (for Archie.) But it was clear ABP was a spin-off; it was never the same to me once Jean Stapleton left. She was magnificent and Carroll's equal in contributions to the show.
