Nick at Nite Request: "Empty Nest" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Dear Nick at Nite Viewer Services,

I have a proposal for Nick at Nite: to make a deal with Buena Vista Television for Nick at Nite to become the shared cable home (with Hallmark Channel) of the hit 1988-1995 sitcom "Empty Nest," which starred the late Richard Mulligan as Dr. Harry Weston, a pediatrician based in Miami, Florida whose wife, Libby, died suddenly 18 months earlier and whose 3 daughters were grown and moved away--that is, until his 2 eldest daughters, Carol (Dinah Manoff) and Barbara (Kristy McNichol), moved back in with him to help him cope with their mom's sudden demise.

Other characters included Charley Dietz (David Leisure), the pesky neighbor who NEVER went away; LaVerne Todd (Park Overall), Harry's employee at his office located inside Miami Community Medical Center; and Jeffrey Millstein (Edan Gross), a frequent patient of Harry's.

The original pilot aired as the 2nd-season finale of "The Golden Girls."

The episode, titled "Empty Nests," focused on a married couple, George and Renee Corliss (Paul Dooley and Rita Moreno), neighbors of the Golden Girls, who had the whole house to themselves after their grown kids moved away--and whose marriage was falling apart. The pilot, obviously, was retooled, with David Leisure being the only holdover from this pilot, playing a different character (Oliver) than he did on the eventual series, that of Charley Dietz.

In the fall of 1993, "Golden Girl" Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) moved over from that series to this one. Simultaneously, after closing his office and retiring, Harry began working at a local Miami clinic headed by Dr. Maxine Douglas (Marsha Warfield).

Tentatively, Nick at Nite shall add "Empty Nest" to its regular schedule starting Monday, October 8, 2012 with a 4-night marathon from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., showcasing 10 episodes per evening (encoring the entire marathon from 1 to 6.a.m. and the last hour each night from 6-7 a.m.) featuring some of the show's most memorable episodes complete, uncut, & unedited, as first seen on NBC.

After the marathon, Nick at Nite shall add the series to its regular schedule starting Friday, October 12, 2012 by airing Friday-Saturday nights from 10-11 p.m. ET/PT and Sunday-Thursday nights from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT.
