FX Gets the Rights To Air "The Green Hornet" Movie
The Green Hornet Flies to FX
Feb 1, 2011 by Michael Schneider FX has captured The Green Hornet. The movie, which stars Seth Rogen as the masked vigilante and Jay Chou as his sidekick, Kato, will debut on FX at the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013. The Green Hornet opened on Jan. 14 to No. 1 at the box office, and has so far grossed nearly $80 million in ticket sales domestically. Should it hit $100 million, FX will pay around $12 million for rights to the movie. Under movie distributor Sony's premium channel deal, Starz will get the initial pay window for The Green Hornet before the telecast rights move to FX. The movie received a wide scope of reviews, with an almost 50/50 split between raves and pans. But FX sees the action/comedy property as a good companion to its other movies, as well as its quirky male-oriented original comedies like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", "The League", "Archer" and the upcoming "Wilfred". In The Green Hornet Rogen plays Britt Reid, who partners with Kato to pose as criminals in order to fight crime after his media baron father dies. Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz also star. FX already previously held the TV rights to Rogen's Pineapple Express, as well as Superbad. Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg, both of whom wrote those two movies, were also writers on The Green Hornet. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Green-Ho...s-1028754.aspx |
