TVSquad Talks To Will Arnett about "Running Wilde"
Will Arnett Is "Running Wilde" Again
by Bryan Reesman posted Sept 28th 2010 While "Running Wilde", the latest show from "Arrested Development" writers Mitch Hurwitz amd Jim Vallely has had a modest start, the response from fans has been "unbelievable" according to star Will Arnett. And if those fans stick around, they may just see more "Arrested Development" cast members pop up on the new show. The actor/producer caught up with TV Squad at the the New York Television Festival to discuss the evolution of the series, which airs Tuesdays at 8:30PM ET on Fox. "Our goal is eventually to have every person on 'Arrested Development' come on the show," quipped Arnett. "That's actually our secret goal that we've laughed about for a long time." "Mitch, Jim and I work together because we want to and love each other, and we wanted David Cross to come and do it," Arnett continued. "We're going to have Jason Bateman and Jeffrey Tambor come on the show and do something because we're all in love with each other. It's really fun. I'm very excited about it, and obviously we know there are going to be a lot of 'Arrested Development' comparisons." When asked how he was making Steven Wilde fresh to play, the actor replied, "It's funny, I did an interview where someone said that all my characters are the same, like Devon Banks on '30 Rock' and Gob on 'Arrested Development.' First of all, Devon Banks on '30 Rock' was driven and had a tremendous amount of ambition, if nothing else. The character of Gob had none of that at all. I think that people draw comparisons simply because it's me playing the parts, and there are always parts of me that will bleed through. I'm not a chameleon actor in that regard." "You have a certain style in things that you do and that will transcend whatever role," continued Arnett. "In this character of Steve Wilde, I want him to be somebody who is a guy who's been handed everything there is life, but I want it to be revealed that on a personal level, he is actually very nice guy ... He's one of those guys who seems like a jerk, and he's not." Arnett and company are aware of the "Arrested Development" comparisons and want "Running Wilde" to stand on its own. He noted that detractors compared the "Running Wilde" pilot, which was reshot and recast, to the previous, more polished series. "Our attitude was we're making a great show and having a lot of fun. I challenge people to have more fun," he said. http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/09/28/wi...-needs-photos/ |
