How's this for divine inspiration? The fantastic Maura West — a two-time Emmy winner as nutjob Carly Tenney on CBS's As the World Turns — has been cast as the new Diane Jenkins on CBS's The Young and the Restless. West won't be off the air for long. ATWT ends its run September 17 and she'll first appear on Y&R on October 8. She starts taping September 1. Prepare for instant drama: The vengeful, sperm-swiping Diane was once married to mustachioed meanie Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and was in love with his arch-enemy, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), with whom she has a son. The character was played from 2001-04 by Susan Walters, who returned to the role for a two-day stint last February during the Patty-Emily doppelganger mess. (Walters currently plays mayor Carol Lockwood on The Vampire Diaries.) Look for the deets on Diane's storyline and an exclusive interview with La West in TV Guide Magazine.

Y&R is ridiculous. They keep bringing on new people for no good reason while ignoring plenty of veterans. And if they want to bring Diane back, WHY recast her again?! So stupid.

I had a feeling Diane Jenkins would reappear someday. Whatever happened to her original portrayer, Alex Donnelly?

Susan Walters actually reprised the role briefly earlier this year. I haven't heard anything about Alex since she was let go from the show. Looking her up just now, it seems since Y&R she has had some very minor roles in a few movies.

Really? I don't remember hearing about Susan Walters appearing on Y&R earlier in the year, and I subscribe to SOD.

Yep, she was only on for a few episodes, though.

Kinda surprised they picked Maura West for this role. We'll she how she works. Wonder if she is going to dye her hair brown since the two previous Diane's were brunettes.

Whatever the hair color - at least they know that Maura West can play the barracuda! It should be tons of fun seeing her face off with Melody Thomas Scott/Nikki.
