Wow. I see the race towards variety continues

So now ION is down to 3 main shows? Ghost Whisperer, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, with a bit of NCIS mixed in on Thursdays. What a killer lineup. Makes me tired just at the thought of it.

I can't believe that a network that once showed so much promise has turned into this.

Thumbs up

ION may not have a lot of variety in its show rotation, but it is delivering record Nielsens with largely scripted-encore programming that are at the level of what the old PAX network was delivering with a mostly scripted-original lineup.

I like that, going into the fall season, ION is the last of the broadcasters to be maintaining a theatrical film series, with a few made-for-television productions added to the mix.

My only wish for ION would be that they try to develop a comedy night franchise (perhaps on Fridays?) that could build on their success with 'M*A*S*H' by incorporating in a few other classic sitcoms. 'My Name is Earl' didn't do well for them, but they should keep up the search to find compatible shows to line-up alongside 'M*A*S*H'. A comedy night would be a popular buy with a certain group advertisers that tend to steer clear of crime procedurals, and they might get elevated CPM's from a sitcom block.

Ion now officially completely stinks. There is nothing on the schedule now that I like. Stinks to not have Family Feud, but it'll still be on GSN. And I have The Fifth Element on tape. At least my affiliate sometimes plays Tampa Bay Rays games, so that's much better than their schedule. Just like Julie said, they had so much promise. Now they're like a really limited cable channel that just spams its popular shows. They could try so many sitcoms from their library, but they won't anymore because of their recent success. It's a shame, really. For some reason a lot of people watch current shows on there when they could just watch it on the other networks. And Du Mont, MASH really isn't a sitcom, not much of one anyway. It was too overly serious to really be considered a sitcom. I always get irritated when people call it a sitcom.

I liked when ION had The Wonder Years back in 2007. I still wish that some network would acquire that show. It's one of my favs and I would get it on DVD if it was available. ION doesn't do much for me nowadays, with the modern shows dominating. I don't particularly hate modern shows, it's just that I can see programs like Criminal Minds, Without a Trace and NCIS on 10 other stations.

Agreed on The Wonder Years. That show deserves to be somewhere. I wish Hallmark would pick it up. It would blend in perfectly, I think. Even TV Land could be a good place for it. It deserves to be somewhere airing on TV

One of the many great things about the Wonder Years was the intro. One of the best things I've even seen.

The Season 6 one gives me goosebumps:

I don't see why airing a nice afternoon block of comedies would be such a farfetched idea. Seeing The Wonder Years again would be great, along with all the other great sitcoms they used to air. Remember how well Mama's Family used to do? I can't believe we haven't seen the return of that yet.

I've lost track of how many times I've tried to ask....do they even have access to these shows anymore?

I don't think they do. The libray deals are never long term. 2-3 years max.

If ION were a 24/7 network, these blocks wouldn't be so bothersome in how they appear on the schedule. While it's great to see ratings growth, they need to realize there is more to be had. Is there any hope they will stop depending so much on paid programming and really expand their actual programming?
