Did 'Joey' Kill the Sitcom Spinoff Genre? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Granted, spinoffs themselves aren't dead...yet. There are plenty of dramas that successfully spun off shows from the parent show. However, sitcoms haven't had a show spun since 'Joey' if I am not mistaken. Why is that? Back in the 70's & 80's, even the 90's, sitcom spinoffs were still prevalent. Than it seemed the heavily hyped 'Joey' came along. When that show failed, it seems sitcoms have shyed away from doing anymore.

It really is a shame because there is so much potential for sitcom spinoffs nowadays.
