Thought Difference between Gidget movies and Tv series

Just to start off, I'm 18 years old (a college freshman) and love Gidget (I own the first 3 movies, Gidget, Gidget goes Hawaiian, and Gidget goes to Rome) but certain things drive me crazy.

1st off that they used a different Gidget in every movie. I understand that people want to do other stuff but it has always bothered me if they make a sequal and don't use the same people.

2nd - At the end of the first movie Gidget gets pinned by Moondoggie and she is 17. In Gidget goes Hawaiian, she gets pinned in the very beginning (but wasn't sure pinned at the end of last movie. It seems that at least a year has passed between the two shows). I don't really have any problems with Gidget goes to Rome. But with the 4th and 5th movie, I have not been able to see then yet, Gidget Grows Up and Gidget gets married, Jeff's last name has changed from Jeff 'Moondoggie' Matthews to Jeff 'Moondoggie' Griffen and Jeff 'Moondoggie' Stevens according to internet movie database, is this also true in the movies? Does anyone know why they changed his last name?

3rd - is that in the tv series with Sally Fields, if I remember correctly, I have only watched the first 4 espiodes becuase my aunt had them, they have Gidget being younger than 17 and not a senior in high school. The other thing is that Gidget has no mother and all of sudden has a sister in the tv series when in the movie there was a mother but no sister.

Does anybody agree with? Did this bother anyone else? Just wanted to put my views out there and things that really bothered me. Maybe someone knows why they did this. If so thank you so much.

The first Gidget movie stared the wonderful Sandra Dee. She did a great job in the movie, but probably didn't want to be typecast in that role. However, she did make two or three of the "Tammy" movies so I guess she liked that role better.

For the TV show, the producers and sponsors were probably trying to appeal to the young teen audience so I believe Sally Field played a 15 year old (though in real life I believe she was 19 at that time). I don't know why the TV series had her mother as passed away. Possibly they did this because there were already enough tv shows about a regular nuclear family of that time (Father, Mother, children) and they wanted to make something a little different. Both "Donna Reed Show" and "Hazel" which were being filmed at that time, had strong adult female characters as the stars and "Gidget" revolved more around a young girl, so they may not have wanted a mother figure competing for air time in this series.

And no Larue. I'd like to those three Gidget movies. And no, I don't know why they kept changing Gidgets.
