On 2/11/1940, there was a cartoon called "Puss gets the Boot" and it featured Jasper the Cat and an unnamed mouse (actually it was Jinx), but in their second cartoon "The Midnight Snack" Jasper was renamed Thomas and "Jinx" was named Jerry.

So...Happy 70th Thomas Cat and Jerry Mouse!
