HBO Renews "Treme" for Second Season

In a sign of great faith, HBO has renewed its New Orleans-based drama "Treme" for a second season -- after just one episode.


According to the Live Feed, the network is so enamored with the series that it couldn't wait to greenlight the second season.

"We would have picked up this show last week," said HBO president Michael Lombardo. "We've seen the first nine episodes it's as strong as any show we've seen. Much like "The Wire", the audience is so passionate and so invested. We're about servicing our subscriber base and I believe that people will become addicted to this show. We have to be a place where this kind of excellence is giving space to continue."




The post-Katrina drama has been earning generally positive reviews all over the blogosphere, and, considering creator David Simon's track record, it's likely to hit its stride within the next few episodes.

The freshman show made its Sunday-night debut this week to 1.4 million viewers in its combined airings.


By comparison, HBO's long-running and critically acclaimed drama "The Wire" scored only 890,000 when its fifth and final season premiered in 2008.

Both series were created by Simon (also behind the masterful miniseries "Generation Kill"), who will resume production with the second season of "Treme" in New Orleans this fall for a spring return.
