Assuming that the folks at "'Til Death" occasionally read this site, I have the following suggestions. I know that this series has been surviving against the odds for four seasons. I think that if there were any other program with better Neilsen numbers in any of its four,Fox would have yanked it. It was saved by other shows that were worse and by its bargain production costs.
That being said, I just discovered the existence of this show and enjoyed the episodes that I watched. Here's my suggestions: 1) Drop the concept that Eddie's son-in-law knows that his world isn't real but a sitcom production. Other writers have thought of this plot line before. It isn't used because its constant repetition, (instead of just a one-off scene), detracts from the verisimilitude of the situation and is off-putting. 2) Increase the scenes and dialogue involving Eddie's lunatic, quirky high school principal. Give that actress at least a small bit in every episode and make her central to many. That character is the most memorable, and funny, persona that has been created in years on tv. Do this and the fifth season, and more, I hope, will be guaranteed. |
