My favorite episode is " Andy's Vacation " when Andy wants to go on a vacation across the United States and the Kingfish needs to raise some money for his family. So he makes Andy think he is taking him cross country, yet they never leave Central Park. In the end, Sapphire and her mother spot the Kingfish's trailer as they are walking back from the store and decide to investigate. When they find Andy inside they let him in on what the Kingfish has done and tell Andy to go on home, as they will take care of Kingfish. When Kingfish returns from the store, he enters the trailer and the camera backs up to show the trailer rocking all over the place, cause Sapphire and her mother are tearing him up as he is doing his best to get out of there. It is funnier every time I see it, from beginning to end...

One of my favorite episodes is "The Broken Clock", in which the lodge brothers give the Kingfish an electric clock as a present. When the clock turns out to be defective, Kingfish is given the runaround by the store, the distributor, and the jobber. Finally, he and Andy take the clock back to the factory, where they are mistaken for government scientist who were sent there to test a top-secret alitmeter. After a few more mix-ups, in which our boys mistakenly make off with the altimeter, the FBI gets on their case and arrests Andy, Kingfish, Sapphire and her Mama, who threatens to kill Kingfish!
After all that, it turned out there was nothing wrong with the original clock to begin with: The Stevens's electricity had been turned off that morning! |

My favorite is "Meal Ticket". Sapphire has purchased a new dining table, and hopes to have upscale intellectuals and socialites as guests. At the same time, Kingfish is hatching a financial scheme: he sells monthly meal tickets to Andy and several of his friends, entitling them to a nightly meal at his apartment, cooked by Sapphire. Of course, Kingfish doesn't tell Sapphire what is going on - instead he gets her to believe that these working class guys are actually the intelligentsia that she was hoping to entertain. Needless to say, they don't live up to this reputation when they show up for the first night's dinner. But the Kingfish doesn't give up, and goes to great lengths to preserve his scam. The whole situation is just too funny, I can watch this one over and over.

I would have to say it is The Light Blue Car, because it contains most of the elements that made the show good.

I think it was titled "Andy buys a house".
I laughed almost non-stop as Kingfish snookers Andy into buying a big beautiful house, that is just a movie prop in reality. When Andy goes through the front door to see the house and steps right into the back yard, that is great stuff! And the way it ended was just super well done comedy. |

The episode I will always remember fondly is when the Kingfish scams Andy into paying Kingfish for a home college course that would be given over a remarkably short period of time. Andy asks how he can get a degree in such little time. Kingfish replies that traditional college kids waste a lot of time with parties, sports, etc. True and funny.

My two favorite epsiodes were "the rare coin" and "Madame Queen returns" Some tru funny bits. Kingfish trying to pry the nickle from the phone booth and Calhoun duping the Madame.
FDR would not do his fireside chats on tuesday as he thought all would be listening to Amos & Andy. He might have been right. Don't know if you saw the kinescope prior to the first show, where Gosden comes before the TV audience, thanks the loyal listeners for the past 20 years and asks the audience to close thier eyes and imagine what the characters would look like. Then he introduces them and sure enough everyone like what I thought they would. Never thought of it as racist but then I was just a kid when it aired. The only one who was hardworking was Amos and he had a small role. Harvey |

I haven't seen a great deal of these but of the 4 that I have seen online, I liked: "the income tax show," and "rare coin." I liked them equally because they were the first two that I watched with my dad. My dad was a huge Amos and Andy fan, and when I found some online, I asked him if he would enjoy watching them. (He's bedridden, after a stroke left him right-side paralyzed). Anyway those are my faves and that is my reason why.. also , the date of the income tax show (april 15) happens to be my anniversary!
![]() PS: mod, I hope this is allowed. I didn't originally post this, but after I did I saw that someone else added a link, so here is where I viewed these amos and andy shows. There's only 4 to date: tv4u.com. There's a huge selection of OTHER shows there as well! Enjoy |
