Dear Nick at Nite Viewer Services,
I have a proposal for Nick at Nite: to make a deal with 20th Century Fox Television for Nick at Nite to have exclusivity in airing reruns of the hit 1977-1982 drama "Lou Grant," which spun off from "Mary Tyler Moore." Unlike "MTM," which was a sitcom played for laughs, "Lou Grant" was a unique type of spin-off -- a serious drama played for dramatic purposes. The show had Ed Asner reprise his "MTM" role of Lou Grant, who, after being fired from WJM-TV news in Minneapolis, Minnesota, moved to Los Angeles, California to work as a newspaper reporter for the Los Angeles Tribune, owned by the widowed Margaret Pynchon (played by the late Nancy Marchand). Other principals included Dennis Price (played by Daryl Anderson), the staff photographer; Billie Newman (played by Linda Kelsey), the ambitious reporter; and Charlie Hume (played by Mason Adams), Lou's new employer. Tentatively, Nick at Nite shall welcome "Lou Grant" to its regular schedule starting Monday, September 13, 2010 with a week-long marathon titled "Nick at Nite Grants Lou Grant," showcasing 44 hour-long episodes (10 per night) complete, uncut, & unedited, as seen on the CBS Television Network. After the marathon, "Lou Grant" shall air regularly with 2 hour-long episodes weeknights starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT, only on Nick at Nite. Sincerely, Grundoon Katt |
