According to Amazon there is a pre-order announcement for a 2 disc collection tin DVD set coming in Jan'10- There is not much detail at this point hopefully its not the usual public domain stuff and maybe just maybe its the start that we may see official box sets next year!

All the recent DVD Lunchbox style tin sets are public domain episodes, it's a new trend to repackage the same old material in a shiny collectors tin.

I was afraid of that... Columbia/Sony are a bunch of idiots for not releasing the entire collection |

...if you don't see a SONY logo on the back of that tin box, that means it's certainly another "repackaging" of several of the first two seasons' "live" {kinescoped} episodes (much in the manner when early, obscure recordings of famous singers and musicians were reissued for years on various vinyl "discount" 33rpm records you could buy on metal racks or bins in your local supermarket, discount "bargain stores" and "record stores" from anywhere to 49 cents to $1.99). I've seen the same ten or so "BURNS AND ALLEN" episodes "recycled" endlessly on "dollar DVD"'s...and that's good, because someone took the time to save those "live" episodes with the original commercials [although some companies often omit the commercials and opening/closing titles] where they might easily have been tossed out or destroyed by CBS years ago. The only time Columbia ever issued ANY episodes of "THE BURNS AND ALLEN SHOW" was on videocassette in the mid-'80s, featuring two filmed episodes from season three under "alternate sponsor" B.F. Goodrich's sponsorship (with commercials and a CBS network I.D. at the end), which makes me mad because I'm sure there are more "original network prints" in their possession, and they haven't even released THOSE!!

I believe it is Warner who just recently started selling "on demand" titles of movies through their website, titles that they make available online only and not in the stores. I would glady purchase Burns and Allen this way if this was the only way to get these episodes.
