Once again, classic-sitcom dvd collectors are put in a tough situation. The people that are screwed the most are the avid Hogan's Heroes fans that have already purchased all 6 season releases. They are the ones that would want to have these bonus features more than anybody, and yet they have to make the decision to buy this just for that one disc. That isn't fair.

I myself, have not started buying HH. So I'm fortunate. Like M.A.S.H., I was in the same situation and was able to buy the complete series w/o having to worry about the double-dipping, but other series, I was put in this situation of a nice set of the complete series coming out AFTER all the season releases. So I feel for those Hogan fans. They ought to have some system where you could send in "proof of purchase" labels along with a reasonable price for that one disc, and be able to get that by itself!

They should have included all of this bonus stuff when they first started putting this series out. Another attempt to get you to spend more money.

Cool

November 10th just happens to be my birthday. So if anyone was trying to figure out what to get me for my birthday this DVD set would be nice! (hint! hint!)

My daughter was going to buy a couple of seasons for my birthday but I told her to wait in case a complete series was issued. I am glad I had her wait and now will buy it in November. I learned a few years ago that unless I really want a show I now wait until it gets a complete issue then buy all seasons or pick it up as a complete series issue.

The first season was released March 15, 2005, the sixth and final season, and the complete series was released June 5, 2007.

Three video clips which I seen online that are not included in these releases:
- Klink's appearance on The Simpsons and Batman
- The regular cast on The Hollywood Palace in character talking with Bing Crosby and singing Christmas songs as themselves.

Who could have thought there would be comedy gold hidden beneath a Nazi controlled P.O.W. camp? Bing Crosby saw the hilarity with a group of Allied soldiers running an espionage operation under the noses of Germans. He brought it to life with the likable Bob Crane as Col. Hogan and Richard Dawson (Family Feud) as his right hand man. November 24 brings all six seasons and a brand new bonus DVD in Hogan’s Heroes: The Komplete Series, Kommandant’s Kollection. Here’s the press release from CBS DVD:

All Six Seasons Of This Classic TV Show Arrive In A 28-Disc Gift Set
Just In Time For The Holidays November 24 From
CBS Home Entertainment And Paramount Home Entertainment

Extra Disc Includes New To DVD Footage Including An Extended Pilot With Rare Intro, A German Dubbed Episode, Brand New Interviews And More

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (October 12, 2009) – Re-live the adventures of Colonel Robert Hogan and his motley crew of fellow prisoners as they try to cause as much havoc and disruption to the Nazi war effort as possible when HOGAN’S HEROES™ THE KOMPLETE SERIES, KOMMANDANT’S KOLLECTION arrives on DVD November 24 from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.

Packaged together for the first time, the 28-disc set includes all six seasons of the smash-hit series, as well as an arsenal full of extras including home movies, bloopers and audio commentaries. The set will also contain an entire disc of new to DVD special features, including an extended version of the pilot with rare introduction, a new cast interview with Richard Dawson and a photo montage including unseen images set to a performance of the show’s theme song by Bob Crane and his band. Brand new “Kommandant Rank” graphics and packaging have been designed for this special set.

Garnering two Emmy® nominations for his role, Bob Crane stars as Colonel Hogan, who together with his fellow Prisoners of War at Stalag 13 cleverly outwit their German captors. Firing off a non-stop string of one-liners from behind enemy lines, the ragtag team – including
Richard Dawson, Robert Clary and Larry Hovis – lead a relentless comic assault on their Nazi captors, conducting espionage and sabotage campaigns right under the noses of their warders. While the enemy is often gullible, easily fooled or downright incompetent, the real strength of Hogan’s men are the elaborate ruses and sometimes dangerous lengths they will go to complete their mission. Werner Klemperer earned back-to-back Emmy awards for his role as the German Colonel Wilhelm Klink. Airing from 1965 through 1971, HOGAN’S HEROES™ garnered three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series.

HOGAN’S HEROES™ THE KOMPLETE SERIES, KOMMANDANT’S KOLLECTION arrives armed with a disc of new to DVD material, including:
A new interview with Richard Dawson, who played Corporal Peter Newkirk
An extended version of the pilot episode “The Informer,” with a very rare network introduction
A segment from Hollywood Palace, featuring the cast of Hogan’s Heroes

A new interview with Albert S. Ruddy, Co-Creator
Digital version of “Hokum’s Heroes” parody from Mad Magazine
1968 and 1969 Emmy® Awards: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Werner Klemperer clips
German dubbed episode with alternate dialogue track, created for German broadcast television which ultimately turned HOGAN’S HEROES™ from a flop into a hit show in Germany, with Albert S. Ruddy introduction. English subtitles also provided.
The 28-disc set is presented in full screen format with English Restored Mono. The DVD is not rated in the U.S. and its total running time is approximately 71 hours, and will be available on DVD for the suggested retail price of $162.99 U.S. The DVD disc breakdown is as follows:

Stalag 13 was usually controlled by the Luftwaffe. Hogan had more than one right hand man than Newkirk, he also had right hand men, LeBeau, Carter, and Kinch.
