Exclamation 'My Name Is Earl' canceled

After late-in-the-game saves for fan favorites like NBC's "Chuck" and Fox's "Dollhouse," CBS has canceled long-running Sunday night action-drama "The Unit" while NBC is putting an end to Thursday night comedy mainstay "My Name Is Earl."

But sources also say there's some silver lining: "Earl" studio 20th TV is talking to Fox and ABC about possibly picking up the show.

ABC in particular has been receptive to picking up rival shows, having taken "Scrubs" after NBC canceled the series last year and committing to take on "The New Adventures of Old Christine" should CBS cancel the series (there's still no official word on "Christine," though ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson said Tuesday morning that last he heard CBS was renewing the show).

Both shows have run four seasons. "Earl" averaged 4.5 million viewers and a 1.7 adult demo rating this while "The Unit" pulled 9.6 million viewers and a 2.4 rating.

I'm not surprised. I lost all interest after the first season.

The first season was pure genius. I don't know when Earl went to prison, but for me that was the jumping the shark moment of the series.

I'm glad they are talking with ABC and Fox about possibly picking the show up. I hope that happens. The show did get better this season after an awful last year with the whole prison storyline.

Season one was hysterical. Season two was good. After that it was downhill & it won't bother me if it doesn't come back.

Default DARN (mild translation)

I've just written a "spec" script for the show.

I also hope ABC picks it up. The prison shows were preety bad, and the ones after that where he was in a coma, were OK sometimes, but this season it's bounced back and become a "must see" show for me again.
