DUCK FACTORY was a short-lived NBC sit-com that aired in 1984. The
setting for this offbeat show was a TV animation studio. Most
people who remember it at all recall it because of Jim Carrey (in his first TV
role). But I remember it because voice actor Don Messick (who provided so
many voices for Hanna-Barbera, incl. Boo Boo, Dr. Benton Quest, and Scooby-
Doo) appeared on camera for the first (and only) time in the regular role of
Wally Wooster (who was--what else?--a cartoon voice actor on the show).
Others on the show included gifted character actor Jack Gilford and Clarence
Gilyard Jr. (later of MATLOCK). I thought Messick did a fine job on this show,
as did writer-producer Jay Tarses, who played the part of a gag writer.
Unfortunately, the series only lasted about three months (it didn't help that it
was opposite ABC's DYNASTY and the CBS WEDNESDAY MOVIE). The first
three episodes were released on a video tape by MTM Home Video. The
third episode features some interesting guest stars: Bill Scott and June
Foray (of THE BULLWINKLE SHOW) and Veronica Hamel (of HILL ST. BLUES).

I remember that show! The Duck Factory centered around the staff of the cartoon series The Dippy Duck Show. In addition to this show being Jim Carrey's national debut, the show also featured Julie Payne as the hard-driving business manager Aggie and Teresa Ganzel as Mrs. Winkler, the widowed owner of the production company.

Thanks! I'm glad that someone remembered it. The show also occasionally
featured some animated pencil sketches of Dippy Duck. Cool show. It's
interesting that, in one of Jim Carrey's first movies ("The Mask") he played a
character who was crazy about classic cartoons.

Yep, I remember that show too. I actually have a copy of the Pilot Episode as it aired w/o/cs.....I'm looking for some more episodes, hopefully I can find a few more.

I enjoyed that show too, unfortunatly as critics said, they didn't use jim carrey great talent to it's fullness. in the last episode, I think, They were about to cancell Dippy Duck and thought to kill off one of the characters which was a knight. Surprise was that the young executive that they were to talk to loved that character. looking at his wall of star wars posters th duck factor people changed dippy into a space duck to please him and keep the show going.

I watched the first 8 recently when I was transferring them to DVD. Not a great show although Teresa Ganzel was really hot.
