VERY PISSED.. dvd's aren't closed-caption/subtitles - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Damn, I was frustrated as hell.. After going through this crap with Saved by the Bell: College Years, I was once again, DISSAPOINTED, that another set of tv show, Ellen, is NOT closed-caption or doesn't even have subtitles!!!!!!

Sorry, but as a deaf person, I NEED it to view it.. If I can't read what they're saying, I'm not watching it !!

Yeah, this sucks, I don't know why this isn't a standard thing it all TV DVD sets.

I know i was disapointed to, like the region one roseanne dvds they dont have them on, the region 2 (uk) dvds of roseanne have the subtitles, im not sure about region 2 Ellen dvds. I buy mostly region one because you have to wait forever for them to be released here

If you have a multiregion dvd-player, check out the region 2 ellen dvds on amazon or play.com see if they have subtitles.

I know that at least season 5 does and some of the others may also. The only one that I know for a fact doesn't is season 1. It really is a shame.

That sucks! I don't have any hearing problems that I know of, but I've found it easier to watch shows with closed-captioning. I agree, closed-captioning should be required on all DVD's. There is a thing called the Americans with Disabilities Act and this should fall into that category. Just like they have to have handicapped parking spaces in most places.

I was going to buy "Little House on the Prairie" sets, but when I saw that the first-third seasons aren't closed captioned, I changed my mind!

i'm also surprised that all aren't. how hard is it to do?

i find that when i watch movies on my exercise bike i have to turn the volume up uncomfortably loud and get complaints from my neighbors. close captioning is perfect for that.

also, occasionally i can't tell what someone is saying and i push mute and rewind. it;'s very convenient !

Years ago, they used to show ads on TV for one of those trade schools where you could learn how to do closed-captioning for TV. I kind of wish I could have at least looked into it. It never occurred to me to do it.

Now I bet it would be a pretty good career to get into.
