Default Help on Cold Case Files

I have been trying to locate the name or number of the Cold Case Files Episode where a hiker leads police to where he discovered skeletal remains in California.

It turns out the hiker was the killer.

The victim was a boy from California and the case was complicated because the bones were misidentified as female. After a few years the identity was solved when the gender was properly identified because the boy wore braces.

Some time after the remains were identified, a detective noticed a man in his car some blocks from where the boy had lived (he disappeared on his way to the bus stop) and recognized the hiker and the light went off in the detectives head. Turns out the killer/hiker had a couple other dead boys in his past from an Indian Reservation.

Anyone know the episode or recall who was the killer or boy (names) ?

I have spent hours searching the net without any luck.

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of the victim or the killer, but I watched that episode a while ago.

The name of the episode is "Friend of the Family/Remains of Murder" ep # 79 Season 4.

The name of the final victim, whose remains the killer led them to, was Jamey Trotter. I remember it perfectly because the name of the boy in James and the Giant Peach was James Henry Trotter.

Authorities have many good pieces of evidence connecting the convicted killer to the case. He is on death row for numerous offenses. http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2004...5_497_9_04.txt

Thanks for the info. and link which contains alot of information that I don't recall from the Cold Case Files episode.

Unluckily for me it may be awhile before I can get this episode, ironically, Amazon unbox currently carries episodes 1 - 78 and this episode is number 79.

You're welcome. I think Cold Case Files was the program on which I saw it. Whatever it was, it showed the neighbors breaking out champagne when the cops finally came to arrest the pervert.

Jamie Trotter's BF posted most of the episode on YouTube:
