I haven't seen the show in years so I dodn't remember it well, but wasn't there a lot of music in it? I wonder how that will figure in the DVD release.

The announcement makes a point of including the music guests. So I think we will see most, if not all, of the music in tact. The Waitresses will probably be included since they did the theme song.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought this was going to happen! Now I will be seriously happy if we can keep the trend alive and follow this with the announcements of "Hey Dude" and "The Patty Duke Show" on DVD. That would make my year.

Sony made a formal announcement this morning as reported by tsod.com and there is a second coverart now too but it is not final yet. I like the original one better but there are aspects of the second version I like too. I wonder which one will make it to the final release. Can't wait to pick this set up!

All 19 Episodes Available in a Three-Disc Boxed Set with

Exclusive Bonus Features on DVD May 20

Culver City, Calif. (March 10, 2008) – Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Sarah Jessica Parker (TV’s “Sex and the City”) stars along with Amy Linker (D.A.R.Y.L.), Jamie Gertz (TV’s “Still Standing”) and Tracy Nelson (Down and Out in Beverly Hills) in the ‘80s classic Square Pegs: The Complete Series which comes to DVD May 20 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Bonus features include behind-the-scenes featurettes containing brand-new cast and crew interviews.

Created by Emmy® winner Anne Beatts (TV’s “Saturday Night Live”), Square Pegs debuted on CBS-TV September 27, 1982. The series also stars Basil Hoffman (Ordinary People), John Femia (The Hat), and Merritt Butrick (Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan).

Quintessential high school “square pegs” Patty Greene (Parker) and Lauren Hutchinson (Linker) struggle with the teenage angst of trying to “fit in.” Their idols are Weemawee High School’s elite, headed by Jennifer DeNuccio (Nelson) , a wanna-be Valley Girl; LaDonna Fredericks, the school’s hippest black girl; Danny Zuko look-a-like Vinnie Pasetta, Jennifer's boyfriend; and Muffy Tepperman (Gertz), a Jewish princess who joins everything from JV pep squad to science fair organizer. Lucky for Patty and Lauren, they are ultimately accepted by aspiring comedian Marshall Blechtman (Femia) and wanna-be rocker Johnny Ulasewicz aka Johnny Slash (Butrick).

I wonder where these interviews are from because Merritt died in 1989. I wonder if they compiled old clips and interviews. Although, initially, it was said the SJP interview was all-new. Either way, sounds like a cool bonus feature.

The interviews are quite cool and long.

The Merritt Butrick section is interviews of the other people talking about him.
