I enjoyed the Golden Palace much better than The Golden Girls, too. Golden Palace didn't pick up an audience due to two reasons (if I remember correctly): 1. the show moved to Friday nights, and 2. The show moved to CBS and was no longer on NBC. These two factors are enough to hurt any sitcom- even one centered around the Golden Girls (especially a network change)

The Golden Girls is better than The Golden Palace. I like The Golden Palace but it would of been better if Dorothy was on the show and if they would have started a 2nd season.
1. The Golden Girls 2. The Golden Palace |

The Golden Palace is a great show, however I believe many people think it's better than the Golden Girls because it's fresher in a way. Many of us missed the original broadcast of the Golden Palace, and have seen Golden Girls episodes 1,000's of times. If you really examine both series, the Golden Girls had better writing and directing. At least in my opinion.

I never liked The Golden Palace. It started off okay but the second half was just terrible!

It's been quite a while since the last season of GG was released and still no word on the release of The Golden Palace
This is getting disappointing. I know there are mixed feelings about The Golden Palace but I want it to complete my collection. Email Buena Vista requesting the release at www.video.com. Vote for The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, and Life with Lucy on DVD on www.tvshowsondvd.com! |

I didn't like GP anywhere nearly as much as I loved GG. It just wasn't the same without Bea Arthur. The synergy between the four actresses was what made GG such a success. The loss of any of them was the show's undoing and doomed GP before it started.

I loved the Golden Palace and sometimes I do like it better than I like The Golden Girls. It was fresh and different. All I know is that it had me laughing like crazy. When a show can do that, then I can give the show its props.

I'm curious if the people who prefer GP didn't like Dorothy and/or are Cheech and Don Cheadle fans.
GP is okay, but for the most part, I think Golden Girls should've wrapped up when Dorothy left. I think maybe they could've made the GG series finale a little longer and wrapped up the storylines of Blanche, Rose and Sophia as well. Especially when you consider Blanche and Rose never really had closure |

I remember watching the Golden Palace on Lifetime and TiVoing the episodes.
I thought it was decent. There were certainly some funny moments. Sophia was hilarious with her insults to Blanche. Rose was quite interesting... she did as others have mentioned gain independence that at times was very noticeable. But unlike the GG, when I would watch the GP episodes again, they were not as interesting and I didn't have as much desire to watch the episodes again. It goes back to the writing I suppose. I have always thought that perhaps the "girls" are all still running the hotel! I know many people have the opinion that perhaps Rose moved in with Kirsten and Sophia went to live to Dorothy or even Shady Pines (good rebuilt one ). But I prefer (at the moment) thinking they're all working together still and being successful hotel managers.A couple of more notes: Someone who watched the pilot with me had the opinion that the characters were written more generally, the result being more one-liners and predictability. I do notice this especially in the pilot with Blanche at least. I thought when Dorothy was leaving, it was so incredibly sad but filled with emotion... after everyone leaves and Dorothy's standing at the entrance preparing to leave it makes me feel so sad! The music is perfect here for the emotion and the girls going about their business, Rose pushing a cart and Blanche answering the phone added to the effect. WOW! ![]() ~Patrick |

This is just my opinion, but I would say that "The Golden Palace" was just about the "worst" attempt at a spin-off that ever was! It was right up there with "Three's a Crowd"! I would say that the episode that was most forced and artificial was the one in which we learn about the existance of Blanch's older brother who was mentially ********. This was a "terrible" attempt at mixing comedy with drama! Wow! One that I would say was a "very" close second was the one in which Roland was offended by the presence of a Confederate Flag. I mean, how typical and higher predictable can you get? However, throughout the whole sereis, there was one line that I thought was "very" well done and "still" has me laughing! This is when Roland mentioned being a Harverd graduate and asked his Mexican chef where he went to college. The chef said that he never attended college and instead went to a special program for inner-city minority males who could not afford higher education. Roland asked Chewy what program that was and he responded with "Vietman"! I thought that this was a "great" form of Generation X humor! I guess that the writers of just about any sereis can get lucky "once"!

I sure hope this will come on Lifetime again!! I just bought DVR recorder and I've been recording like mad. I'm hoping I'll be able to get all the eps and possibly load them on youtube.
