old post but just saw it when Robby bumped it up.

I must disagree with this opinion that ratings equate quality. It's true Veronica Mars teetered on cancellation all three years it was on, but that doesn't mean it was a bad show. I would even rather take the crappy third season (and the third season was BAD compared to the first two years) of Veronica Mars over any American Idol, Dancing With The Stars or CSI. Hell, even as bad as season three was, it was still better than season three of Desperate Housewives IMO (season 4 is much better than 2 and 3 for that show to me so far). Yea, it didn't click with the mass public, but that's their loss, the first two seasons of Veronica Mars were brilliant and it suffered because it was on the wrong network. If it had been a WB series, it would've done slightly better (since UPN was generally regarded as a network with a bunch of urban sitcoms and nothing more, most WB fans only turned to UPN when they acquired Buffy, after Buffy ended, it was bye-bye UPN) yet the third season was anemic and weak and by the time more people could give the show a chance, the new episodes of it were a sharp decline from the UPN episodes (because they insisted on dropping season long mystery arcs and going stand-alone).

I might actually watch more than 2 shows on CW (3 come Jan when OTH returns for it's final season) if they would've given Veronica another season, especially considering that the series ended on a really bad note and the series finale left more mysteries open instead of closing all the doors.

I agree. Another example of awesome shows that had horrible ratings are "My So Called Life" and "Freaks & Geeks." They're considered to be 2 of the greatest shows of all time, and both lasted for only one season. They're cult classics now.

Dawn may not make the best decisions when it comes to planning a network, but I will never forget her love for "Veronica Mars."
